I've played with InDesign a bit, but not much... I think that it has some photoshop functions integrated into it, so you don't ahve to have two different apps open. Hmm... wonder if you can find an online tutorial to get you started with either of them. Adobe stuff, in particular, is not really intuitive. Anyway, good luck & let us see what you wind up with!
just thought i'd pass this on, http://www.bluesquirrel.com/ a good program for laying out zines and such.
I wrote for a book that we actually published ourselves. We got a grant see, and we did all the layout and everything, including publicizing. It was ok cause there was like ten of us and it was also able to be tied to into our own art show, but to be honest it was alot of work and not really feasible if it were just one person. We sold only like 500, but all that money was turned back into some foundation we started but I am now a hundred miles away and am not sure what is going on with it all. good luck
