Alouette is stuck in my head (don't ask). What is it with morbid kids' songs. Rock-a-bye baby with boughs breaking and baby falling to the ground, blackbirds being baked in a pie, old women living in shoes. Alouette is one of the worst. We all sang it so happily as kids, no clue what it really meant. It's about plucking a lark!... Gentille alouette, je te plumerai (Nice lark, I will pluck you... your head, your eyes, your tail...) Ha ... look at this video… the kid, happily plucking away.

Lucy, I sang that song as a kid too and I'm aghast! I thought the lark was being brushed or having its feathers coiffed. I didn't know it was so brutal, I'm shocked!

Hey, Baz! That would have been more acceptable. I didn't even know a bird was involved, what an alouette was. It was just fun naming all the body parts at top speed.

It's a good thing the bird's got a seemingly endless supply of feathers. It's got as many feathers as Witch Hazel has hair pins!
