how does this make sense to anyone? God is supposed to be all powerful. God created Satan. Why would he give him free rein to run the world? If I were god I would smite that son of a bitch.

At the beginning of human history, an angel rebelled against God and urged the first human pair to rebel too. The couple chose to obey that rebel angel, Satan, making him their ruler. Almighty God is the only rightful Ruler, but he wants people to choose his rulership because they love him.

Where was god before he created the heavens and earth? Does his existence require that he be created by an even more advanced god? How many levels deep does this recursion go?

You were thinking of (divine) intervention I guess. The lack of God intervening in our actions directly or the fact we are not living in a fantasy world without death and poverty etc. doesn't mean God has to be angry, crazy or a megalomaniac. Especially were it comes to things like poverty which is frankly solely a human created (or rather maintained, as it was always there but could be eliminated) problem (certainly in these times). Same with war and people murdering. How can you blame a higher power for that when it is clearly those particular people. War is so human and not godlike at all. I can understand it makes no sense for a loving god to create life that dies before it reached aduthood but this doesn't take away all the good things we are, see and experience. So why blame good?

Scripture is a language .. just as science (countless branches) is a language .. and so is math and poetry and lyric, and Law. They're all unique languages. Scripture is a language.

There is a reason why people study the Bible and study Scripture. I've just discovered Timothy Lin (searched a list of Biblical scholars). I'd very much like to know your opinion of him, his pursuit in life and his honorary achievements.

Here is a look at the symbolic language of Scripture (though, not written by a Biblical scholar). The author is Lenet Hadley Read, mother of five children, a member of the Young Women presidency in the Indianapolis, Indiana, Fourth Ward.

To answer Lorna's question: the bird is a thought. Earth is a thought. We, are thoughts. We just happen to be manifest as REAL. Thoughts become REAL (materialization). This keyboard I'm typing on first existed in the mind as a thought. The keyboard was produced, manufactured. Made. Created.

However the bird was created (DNA is a language), the bird first existed as thought. The bird is eternal (just as life is eternal).

Every dream needs a foundation on which to stand. Those are my own words from my own mind but I later found that thought in Scripture, just in other words: And as heaven is God's throne, so the earth is his footstool. Isaiah 66:1 and repeated in Acts 7:49

Human beings did not create the Earth yet, it exists.

    :)

I dont think its really accurate to say the first airplane designs were copied from birds.

Wright brothers did research gliding birds, but most of their designs came from kites and studying the work of those succesful with hangliders

There isnt any equivalent in nature to elevators or rudders, or even the aerofoil, the shape of aircraft wings

Natural Selection is about recursive adaptions to the environment, never about what is most efficient

An eagles wings is whats best for it, not whats best for flight

    The Watchmaker Analogy
David Hume criticized this in three ways: First we have seen other watches being made and so infer that any watch we see has also been made in the same way. We have never seen a bird or the universe being made.
Second, The two objects are not similar enough to be compared. A bird is made of flesh and blood, a watch is made of metal and gears.
Third, even if even if there is evidence of design in a bird, it does not necessarily imply an omnipotent (Christian God) maker. A watch may be designed by a team of men. A bird may have been designed by a team of gods, or aliens or a computer for that matter.

There are other arguments against...but I don't have time to post them now.

Everything is a work in progress, be it life from natural evolution or creations from man. Before wing assisted flight there was wing assisted running and jumping. Real creation requires foresight. Men are not perfect, we continue to learn from our mistakes (at least sometimes) and improve. How the hell do creationists expect me to believe in a perfect all knowing God that apparently also needed a couple billion years of trial and error just to get to the miserable mess we're at right now!?

    Oh, IT's THE DEVILS fault!!
    Jesus Fuck Me Christ!!

I'm not sure they really expect you to believe in all that too. It is probably wishful thinking on their part just as your wish to see humanity completely without religion.

Are you in a miserable mess? We as a whole? Or are you just focussing on the negative stuff (when you say such things at least)? If we look at historical times and take into account that we as society as a whole seem indeed to be learning from our mistakes (although slow and only sometimes, and what we learned one time can still be lost again later I guess) and society is improving a bit but steadily if you compare with the past, are we really in such a miserable mess...?

Which in turn means what we create is completely out of his control.

I'd really like to understand why religion always needs to be so overtly confusing.

Well I wouldn't ask Lorna about Jehovah. He already admitted he does not even believe in that branch of religion himself.

The way you know that something is designed, is by comparing to something that has not been designed, right? Like, you look at a watch, with all those intricate gears, and it's obvious that an intelligence planned the object that way. You look at a pebble, it looks fairly random, a product of natural processes. This is just how we know light because we know dark, or how we know hot because we've felt cold. But if EVERYTHING was designed as you claim, then there is nothing you can point to which was not designed; every pebble is a holy pebble in Jehova's divine plan for the universe, right? So then how do you know what "designed" looks like? There is nothing that has not been designed to compare it to. This is just ONE problem with the intelligent design viewpoint. Previous points by Hume above are excellent as well.

Really nice, I just have one question about this, one really simple question that if you could please clear up for me, I will become a christian today. Really simple, a small detail really, it's just been nagging me: Who wrote that?

Are you sure you would become a christian if you would hear the writer's name? Because there is actually an author attributed to the bible book of Revelations ;) Not the apostle John (who was traditionally thought to be the writer of it) but another John (of Pathmos).

It is reasonable to believe that a bird was designed. The questions that then pop up are: Were they really? If so, by who? What leads us to believe that it was designed? The Theory of Evolution does not deal with how things came about, only how they got to where they are now, once they came into being. So far, the best theory I have seen is that everything came into being as a result of chaotic events in some sort of energy pool, or something like that, I forget the exact theory.
Nothing wrong with theoretical thinking, unless the theories become something that is believed before any proof can be obtained that the theory is valid.

Do not become anything unless it is true in your heart to do so! Why are you bargaining like that?

We channel from Higher Mind. Some people connect with God (Most High). We are conduits, channels, mediums. This isn't a matter of opinion. God can select people, for certain purposes. It's a calling. One way to connect with God is, of course, the pen .. so, Mr.Writer .. go connect. If you want a Spirit Guide, his name is Neale Donald Walsch.

    This is false though.

Satan is a creation of Ithekter, the three faced angel, who is the creature you worship as God. But ithekter is no God, he is an angel gone mad, demanding worship and obedience from those that live upon earth, creating in his madness, a complex code of behaviour that few if any can adhere to. Lucifer, the son of the morning, creator of all light, is the true creator of life in the Universe, after all, in the beginning there was a bang, a massive flash of light and thus the Universe was born. He demands no worship, and asks only that people follow their hearts. But Lucifer was struck down by the jealous angel Ithekter, imprisoned in a fiery hell, with Satan as its chief Jailer. You worship a mad demented angel and scorn the true creator.

How does that make you feel?

    Just kidding!

It's actually the plot of a book I am reading a the moment, really good stuff, I love good fiction, makes for a nice break from reality.
