Saddens me to read this as he fought his own demons for years and I guess they were too much for him to deal with at this point in his life.

One other thing about depression...and in this case leaving a wife and children...

When you are so deep in that pit of severe depression, you truly believe that those loved ones will be better off without you. You feel you can't even provide the most minimal care or compassion to those that are closest and deserve the best from you, so leaving them would be the best thing you could do.

In dealing with something like this, a person doesn't even consider physically leaving the place they live or work or whatever...they feel its best for those they love to leave this life, period.

As far as the media goes, I think his wife is handling this with much dignity, intelligence and compassion. My heart goes out to them.

    life's fucking sad.

especially if you are trying to fullfill all the dumb things our conditioned ego wants.

(fame, love, understanding, forever euphoria, acceptence, etc. etc.)

He was manic deppressive though. Probably took things far too seriously.

I was never a fan of Robin's type of comedy. Altho it was clear he was immensely talented.
He always struck me as trying really, really hard to be funny in his interviews. So to me, it did seem a little forced.
It was like he was drunk/on drugs, the way he was so exuberant/theatrical.

Really? Interesting comment altho I don't think thats very common.

I've been thro phrases of always trying to be a comedian. Whether its writing songs, or jokes/stories, or just really stupid real life ideas (more so in school, college, and my 1st yr or so of work). Some people said "oh you should do it as a career", but the job always struck me as a complete nightmare.

I notice how online I might be all joking and then I'll write some really long post about some serious type situation. In a way, they seem like two different people. And I've noticed it with comedians, who go from being all joking into some sort of activist eg Russel Brand.

I think its about getting approval from others. And maybe a little about laughter as a type of drug.

I've found myself thinking of him often today. It struck me that I've been watching him for almost my entire life.....all the way back to Mork And Mindy.

Yeah, I've known a few comedians and they tend to be very dark, very serious people, who also have a way of putting that off with some comedy...I'm sure there are exceptions.

people die. that is a reality.
a man who has given us much happiness is said to have lived a very unhappy life.

i wish him a much greater happiness in his next incarnation, upon whatever world he happens to be born next.

That was great Ghost. Thank you!

I wasn't surprised when I heard the news. I saw Robin last fall on some show. He remarked at how his ex-wives were killing him with alimony payments. He said that he was looking for work. It didn't seem like a joke to me. Then he got a show that was canceled almost immediately. That must have hurt. I saw a man with the blues. Therefore it wasn't a surprise to me. His suicide resonates with something inside of me. I know this because his passing really bummed me out. More so than with others who have passed; people I know. Someone else posted something about when a person believes that his family and friends are better off without them. That's probably where Robin Williams was Sunday night. That's where Janice Joplin and John Belushi were. Someone else posted that more depressed a person gets, the less family and friends want to be around them. That would certainly re-enforce the idea that people are better off without them. Hmm.

fb was flooded with posts about this guy. no ones enjoyed a movie by him for 10 years.

we live in a dog eat dog world where 1% controls more wealth and power than everyone else combined.
where debt is puppeteer'd to all the civilians.

where wars are fought for monetary gain, and even fake-ly created and instigated/propagated.

and thousands and millions are dying because they're killed, tortured, or starving (not taking their spoiled "i'm depressed millionaire life),
    ==

and people wanna talk passionately about this one (nice guy's) life.

There's always someone out there who, while complaining that there are not enough compassionate people addressing the problems in the world, will put a negative spin on the following articles by trying to claim that Williams did it for fame or to get a tax deduction.

It's called celebrity status. Remember Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse?

Plus it's summer. All the politicians are on holiday.

Even if those celebs don't know us, we know them. It is very normal to mourn and pay more attention to someone you knew (in person or not) than to mourn about some war victim in a country you've never been to. Not saying the media attention isn't a bit over the top and out of proportion. But it is just because pretty much everybody knew and appreciated the guy.

    Captain Obvious out.

His death is trying to shine light on alcoholism, depression and drug abuse. When they should be focusing on how financially fucked everyone in the united states is!! Famous actor and comedian cant get work .. what do you think its like for many others..
    thanks obama. ;)
