That was fairly common back in the middle ages. The number of bodies buried alive totaled in the thousands. Scratch marks on the inside lid of wooden coffins gave rise to the vampire legend. Hotwater
My other worst fear.... going into surgery some day... you know, major surgery-heart or something. And being awake (feeling ALL the pain) but not being able to move to let them know IT DIDN'T WORK!!!
That's happened a good few times. There is a med for pain and a med to paralyze in a way so the body doesn't move. They forgot the pain med I guess so a patient couldn't move or speak to let them know.
Yea, I know it has happened. That's why I'm actually, genuinely terrified of it...and not just as a hypothetical!
what if you couldn't even move your eyes, so that the only way to look at something different was to have someone turn your head exactly the right way? of course you couldn't speak either to tell them what you wanted to look at.
i'm sure it would be pretty awful, but ultimately it would depend on the person. seems like people are divided pretty evenly: half are extremely adaptable and will learn to live with whatever life throws at them, and half take any sort of adversity as a sign that god hates them and they should just give up. of course, i'm sure even the first group would feel bitter at times. not necessarily. i believe they have wheelchairs that quads are able to drive themselves, with their mouth or chin or something. and as long as you are mobile, there are ways to end it. drive off a cliff, park on a train track, etc. not that it would be easy, but it wouldn't be impossible.
the dead do not feel pain. i know this is kind of completely off the subject, but that quote from that undead bunnen gee assassin from lexx comes to mind. i'm not even sure why it did. then there's steven hawking.
I never want to find out. What a terrible fate.... I fear is also....from an auto crash or something....so you would have to bring this topic up.....hell to the no!
personally i'm pretty damd sure, if i could get one of those powered wheel chairs, that i'd rather loose the use of my limbs, then my sight or all nonverbal ways to express my imagination. as long as you have eyes, can move your head and neck, and know how to read, you can still use the internet, one keypress at a time.
