So, if two people want to get married (gay or straight, like you said) but they either don't believe in God OR don't have the same religion and therefore cannot agree on a church to get married on....and chose to get married by a justice of the peace instead.... you don't feel they should be able to say they are married but in a civil union instead? Why does marriage have to be a church marriage?
Because I think it can appease everyone. It will allow gay people to "marry" but still keep others happy that "marriage" is for the church.
If you use 2 types then failure is really non existent. But if it does fail then you made that choice to have sex, live with its potential consequences. It is called personal responsibility.
Climate change has something like 97%+ of the scientific community behind it. It is real, and it is happening. That 'intelligence' was falsified by the US in order to justify going into Iraq. Government run healthcare is a viable option in every other western country. There is a reason that you spend more than everyone else but have shittier health outcomes on average. Making people buy health insurance was a roundabout way that the health care law had to be passed because of right-wing opposition to a single-payer system. The republicans are the reason that private insurance companies are still keeping your health care costs high, not government involvement.
Women will always have abortions legally or not, so we're not really discussing the right to have an abortion here. We're discussing whether the government will allow a legal safe place to have the procedure by a licensed doctor or whether women will have to go back to back alley abortions and drinking dangerous concoctions.
I actually mostly agree with you here. Whether you call it civil union or marriage does not matter to me, but I think that a legal marriage/union should authorized by the state should be made available to anyone who wants to get married, regardless of race/gender/sexual orientation/etc. I don't think that we should waste our time trying to make churches accept same-sex marriages. If they want to be discriminating bigots, then let them. I honestly don't understand why any homosexuals would want to fight to be a member of a group that does not want them anyway. Fuck the churches.
Maybe I'm misremembering (and I'm too lazy to go back and double check), but I believe that he stated earlier that he disagrees with abortions but does not think that they should be illegal, for those reasons.
It's a bit pathetic to project that on every person who merely states their political preference. But I guess it does makes life easier and simpler. edit: I also can't see how it doesn't cause any hypocrisy in an individual who claims/advertises to treat others as he likes to be treated himself. Surely you don't like to be projected such extreme things on your person just because you've slipped of the tongue that you happen to have another political affiliation?
I suggest a program called "Democracy Now" with Amy Goodman, a true investigative reporter I respect highly. This program is on multiple NPR & PBS stations. I use DISH satellite as my television service, both channels 9415 "Free Speech TV" & 9410 "Link TV" air this program. My favorite of the two is channel 9415 because they also air many informative documentaries. Below are a few examples of books & documentary films which I was introduced to by watching "Free Speech TV": "The Shock Doctrine the Rise of Disaster Capitalism" by Naomi Klein "Vultures' Picnic In Pursuit of Petroleum Pigs, Power Pirates & High-Finance Carnivores" by Greg Palast (another great investigative reporter who can be quite humorous in his delivery) "Washington You're Fired" DVD "The Corporation" DVD (this is an extremely informative documentary that I highly recommend, but I must warn you there are places in it where it uses cartoon examples that reminded me of watching those education films in junior high & high school) "The Best Government Money Can Buy The Truth About Lobbying" DVD "Beyond Treason What You Don't Know About Your Government Could Kill You" DVD "The Oil Factor" DVD "Burning the Future Coal in America" DVD All of the above are filled with information you will NEVER see on our now censored & corporate controlled news media. I hope you find them as informative & mind expanding as I did.
Gotta agree with this. Instead of an informative topic how to get more insight in politics it has become the old you're this and I'm that and that's why I hate you. Ridicilous. Can't blame the spindoctors though: it works brilliantly.
Invest / Re-investment into Research - Read, Digest. mull over, Conclude and then with Conviction = Champion (the cause) = methinks
the choice to have sex? you seem to say that like sex is inherently evil. no, someone should not be punished because they had sex and birth control failed.
I think his point is that if you choose to have sex, you should be willing to live with the consequences. Can't really say that I disagree with him in most cases.
i completely disagree; sex is natural, sex is good, and there shouldn't be any "punishment" or "consequences" for it. that's exactly indicative of the twisted sex negative society we live in. sex is natural, sex is good not everybody does it but everybody should!
I don't see a child as punishment, but remember that pregnancy is just one thing that can happen, STD and HIV are also possible. So yes deal with potential consequences that come with it. It's called personal responsibility, something we have lost.
a child can be punishment depending on the individual. 9 months of your body being mutilated, 24-48 hours of excruciating pain, 18-25 years of an incontinent screaming roommate who doesn't pay the bills. i was the result of someone dealing with said consequences, and let me tell you, it's not any better forcing a person to deal with taking care of an unwanted life; all it does is build resentment from the parent to the child. so no; keep abortion the way it has been for thousands of years, legal and solely the woman's choice. don't fuck with people's lives and force epeoplt to carry a child or give birth. just let women be and let women care for themselves.
