thats funny retiredhippie i used to live in the soo and when we were kids we used to catch them and smuch them as they lit up then they would stay glowing get enough of them and you have a yooper flash light lol
This year was by far the most I have ever seen. Before this year it was 30 years since I saw a lot of them.
I've never necroposted before, but I was walking through a marshy area last saturday and they were everywhere hotwater
I caught one yesterday. I didn't remember until I had it close to my hands, but they have a distinctive smell too.
I was talking to Jerry420 and guerillabedlam about this last night. Am I the only one that ever got "lightning bug married"? You rip the glow part off and put it on your finger like a ring and it would glow for a long time. My friend Scott would catch them for me and rip the bug apart. We got lightning bug married a ton of times. Now that I think of all the bug guts I had on my fingers as a kid it doesn't seem as romantic as it did when I was 7 years old.
I used to see them all the time when I was a kid, not in a long time have I seen one. I bought a battery operated lighting bug, it's in a jar that looks like a Mason jar, in the lid is the battery and little motor and the bug is on a very thin wire dancing around and lighting up in the jar and the wire can't be seen without looking really hard for it. I showed it to some people I was signing a contract with and they asked how long I had it, I said "about a year", then they asked what I feed it, (of course there wasn't a fleck of any kind of food in the jar) and I said "I need to feed it?!?!" The looks I got were amazing, I think one of the ladies was gonna confiscate it from me. She looked a little confused at my stupidity and cruelty till I explained it wasn't real, haha.
We use to love to catch them as kids and watch them twinkle. My parents had the rule that we had to release them once the evening was over so I am going to assume that they lived a happy life. They were great to watch!
But you are familiar with the expression “Lightning in a Bottle” collect enough fireflies in a milk bottle and it’s as if you've harnessed the power of St. Elmo’s fire Hotwater
It's the time of year.. on the way home from the beach we drove through a ton of them. I've always liked lightening bugs.
