i hate the stupid rule against posting a link or article with no comment. not because i tend to post a lot of links, but because i often like to click on them & read them. many people, like me, come here to seek & share information; posting a link or article is a quick and easy way to do so. discussion is still created. quite hostly i see absolutely no purpose to the rule, i think it hinders our ability to share information that may be of great concern to some of us.

i like coming here because it's a quick way to get a different perspective on what's going on than is presented in the whitewashed media. what i don't like about coming here are the flamers and the idiot far-right-wingers who are more interested in spouting anti-arab-and-muslim "christian" religious dogma than politics. i do not think, IMHO that they are contributing anything useful either to political discussion or religious thought. however, they have a right to be here, and i'm not going to contest that right. but i don't have to like them. i'm sure many of them wouldn't like me either. i do like that so many different ideologies are represented here.

i mainly come here to read, although i do occaisionally contribute. i come here seeking information and opinion, however like any information from any internet forum, i find it wise to follow up on resources and verify facts. i don't particularly feel an overwhelmingly warm sense of community here, i think there's better forums for that, and that is not why i come here, although i do regularly read pressed rat's and 7river's posts, because i usually like what they have to say, even if i may not agree with every last detail.

    Why do you come here?

Boredom, diverse opinions, it's fun to argue sometimes.

What do you like/hate about coming here and why?

It would be nice to have a moderator less patronizing than Balbus...

Do you come to read or to contribute?

    Both.

Do you see this as a place to seek information?

Not really, mostly I think of this place as somewhere to discuss the information that I gather from other sources.

Do you see the forum as a ‘community’?

    eh...

    Why do you come here?
To discuss and hear opinions on politics.

What do you like/hate about coming here and why?
I like the variety of opinion, as well as the chance to share my own opinions without fear of censorship. I dislike the wannabe dictators who think that their opinions are the only ones that matter.

Do you come to read or to contribute?
    Both

Do you see this as a place to seek information?
It would be a good place to find alternative media sources if it wasn't for that damned rule of yours :p

Do you see the forum as a ‘community’?
I see it as a forum, and thankfully not a community. The thing that keeps this place interesting is the difference of opinion. If everyone shared the same views it would just be people agreeing with each other, which makes for very boring conversation.

I come here to share information, to discuss issues that are important to me, and to verify that there are still some sane people in the world. I've also been coming here for years, so it's kind of a habit/addiction for me too... I feel like there is nowhere else for my voice to be heard, so I write here, hoping someone will hear it. It helps keep me sane, knowing that there really are folks in this country who are not blind to what is happening.

I see this more of an artificial community than anything. I think it's great to interact with others and everything, but I don't think it can take the place of "real life" community...

I also agree that the rule against posting a link or article without comment is stupid, and not sure why it exists. I also hate the new character limit, because at times I've written something quite long and had to divide it up between 2 posts, which is pointless and annoying. Of course, I'm one who still thinks the old format was much better than the new one, so I don't know what others think about this.

    Why do you come here?

I enjoy Politics and discussing it. I like to see WHY people who I disagree with think the way they do. "Why would anyone think that?" is often answered on this forum..........sometimes.

What do you like/hate about coming here and why?

I like when people express emotion in constructive ways. I like when people give me view points I may not have thought of. I like a lot of the articles posted (yes, often those posts are helpful) and I really like the funny pictures, mostly of Bush, which I place on my refrigerator!

I hate trolls. If people disagree, that is one thing. But assholes are an other.

Do you come to read or to contribute?

Both! Sometimes people answer thread without knowing the issue. Being able to post links and articles helps explain things. As long as one comments on these posts.

Do you see this as a place to seek information?
    YES!

Do you see the forum as a ‘community’?

I am not sure, some of the time.

    Why do you come here?
to learn and find observe how others react to events.

What do you like/hate about coming here and why?
i like the diversity in opinion.
i greatly dislike the way balbus moderates this forum. he forces others to modify their posts to his personal preference or they are subject to being closed. this is totally fucked up.
i also think this forum is too much debate and not constructive enough.
i am always surprised/amazed at how some threads are ignored and other played out themes are very active.

Do you come to read or to contribute?
    both

Do you see this as a place to seek information?
    sometimes

Do you see the forum as a ‘community’?
not really, but i do feel an affinity with many contributers.

    1. Because I like politics.

    2. I love coming here since the majority of people here are on the other side of the politcal spectrum then me, so I get plenty of people to debate with.

    3. Both

    4. Of course, people often back up what they say, so lots of information, but also a good place to get information on how each other think here.

    5. Yes.

    "Why do you come here?"

-To discuss politics, and exchange and debate political ideas with other folks :)

What do you like/hate about coming here and why?

-I like that i can chat with people who WANT to talk politics, a lot of people don't like talking about them these days. What I don't like is the neo-con trolls who say stuff just to piss people off. I have no problem with real conservatives, and real republicans, but blindly following your leaders, which republicans and conservatives both renounce, only leads to tyranny, even if it isn't their plan to start tyranny, once they have enough power it will eventually grow on them.

"Do you come to read or to contribute?"

-I come here to read and contribute.

"Do you see this as a place to seek information?"

-most definitly, but at the same time, many of my views are very different from the majority in this room, so many times it is me going out and finding information to share to others, but there are many occasions where i come to read posts and find out things that are going on. I like it a lot because it is like news, except regular people just talking about it, not some corporately edited news broadcast...

"Do you see the forum as a ‘community’?"

    -Most definitly.

    Peace and Love,
    Dan

Why do you come here? I enjoy discussing political issues. This forum is just one more step for me in refining my political ideals.

What do you like/hate about coming here and why? I like the honest, intelligent political deabte where the members voice their opinions as opinions, and source their facts. I hate the trolls that come here just to rag on liberals. I don't mind debating and discussing more conservative points of view, but the relentless trolling of some of the individuals here drives away good conversation for liberals and conservatives here alike. It is pretty obvious what a person's motives are for posting here, and the one's that are just out to get liberals takes away from the great conversations we have.

Do you come to read or to contribute? Both

Do you see this as a place to seek information? Yes and no. I have read a lot of articles I may not have otherwise just by reading these posts. But I see this more as a place to refine and redefine my political ideals and opinions through discussion and debate. Also to spread a little bit of my influence and ideals as well.

Do you see the forum as a ‘community’? I would say so. We have plenty of regulars and we all seem to know what to expect from eachother. But we all could work on a few things, like respect and tolerance, to name a few.

Well, I don't think the elections are over, but anyways...

    I'm hip. :)
No, I share the values of many people here I think. I enjoy discussions involving politics.

I like discussing the many topics that surface here. There are interesting exchanges sometimes.
If I hated anything, I probably wouldn't come here.

Both, but mostly to contribute my wisdom, I feel it is my duty. :p
No, I like reading many of the posts, I don't have tons of time to search the internet, so it's nice when someone posts something interesting or entertaining that I haven't come across before.

At times, but mostly it is a place to view opinions, which I enjoy doing.

Oh, I don't know, I suppose some do, but I don't fit in here that well, it seems like with everything I post someone objects to what I say. I get hit from both sides. There are some nice people here though that I like.:)

I feel this to be a good forum for discussing politics. I also find this a good place to inform people of events they might find interesting. I prefer to deal with individuals who have a more liberal mindset. Because this site primarily targets individuals of that persuasion, I feel this is a great avenue to pursue this.

I enjoy sharing my views regarding libertarianism and liberty. I also, if possible, try to present a view which may not have been thought about before. I also enjoy hearing what others have to say and getting into "spirited" discussions on occasion.
I don't care for some of the cheap-shots being hurled by certain individuals. I feel that the posting regulations don't need to be so stringent (i.e.members only posting, links posting w/o more than one sentence).

    I come to do both.

Absolutely! I also come to seek out others' opinions as well.

    Can't say for sure.

    Why do you come here?
Honestly, I have no idea why in the world I come here. It is seriously like a drug that I just cannot quit. I have tried on many occasions to kick this habit, but I'm mysteriously drawn to the people that I have come to "know" (if you can call it that) here. I originally came here to learn more and I mostly read, then it was the thrill of the argument and I posted non stop, now I rarely have time to deal with much of the pety arguing, so when I come here it is to make a point or find info.

What do you like/hate about coming here and why?
I hate the personal attacks, and when people have the same argument over and over again (how many times do we need to discuss abortion and gay rights?) Then again I do understand that there are always new people stopping by so what is old and annoying to me might be something new and informative to someone else. I like that I can come here and I don't feel like such an outcast because I know that there is most likely someone here who agrees with me. Oh yeah and I like that I can enhance my vocabulary simply by reading a few key posters who have such eloquent speech (you can take that literally or sarcastically as it applies to you). The trolls are funny sometimes though, and well I have enough sense to ignore them so they don't seem to bother me in the least bit.

Do you come to read or to contribute?
Both, I mean I can't help but contribute, I do have an opinion on most everything, as ridiculous as it may seem to some.

Do you see this as a place to seek information?
To an extent. More so, I come here to see another's opinion or take on a particular subject rather than get actual "information". I mean no, I don't believe everything that I read here, no matter how much sense it makes to me.

Do you see the forum as a ‘community’?
Certainly, it is a community as much as one can be on the internet. I mean I have formed some really nice internet relationships with quite a few people from this particular forum, simply because emotions run so high in here. I don't think that I'd make the same "connections" with people from other forums. Politics is something that I don't have anyone here in my every day life that I can talk about. Then again I could be completely nuts, I don't go to any other forums (who the hell has the time) so I haven't got much to compare it to.

I like a variety of opinion.

What I do not like are sites {from either Left Or Right} that ban ideas that don't fit with moderator out-look. Those are so boring. I am registered at several of those places, but go there only occasionally, and seldom join in the discussions.
