No, not at all. I too have been discussing this topic since I was hitting puberty and I have to agree with this: So, what is clearly tiresome is NOT the idea of debating this subject but that there's always a couple of people that can't debate fun and openminded. They start to get offensive which in turn righteously offends other people for raping their sincere and serious shared thoughts with ridicule or even hateful dislike. Those are the people who can't debate this topic at all and will usually ruin it for those who can. edit: after rereading it really seems like I left something out and I think I know what: of course the people who get too easily offended and see every opposite opinion of somebody else as an attack on their thoughts and beliefs are ruining these convo's just as much. If not more, when for instance everybody tries to respect eachothers views and there is one whiny person or party who can't accept there are people living in this world with an opposite perception and even worse confronting them with it in that convo. Those people, who maybe do not wish to attack or provoke, are often at least as tiresome as those who ridicule, provoke or offend on purpose imo! It surely gets a fun and openminded discussion off topic and about pityful arguments any time...
I avoid the topic like the plague.... Why am I going to discuss or argue about something that doesn't exist....
That is the right attitude, ducati. If you don't have anything to add in such a convo it is best to simply stay out of it indeed
While I don't think it's so important to debate the idea of god or whatever....I absolutely do think it's important to stay active and vocal about where religion stands in society. Certain people would love it if non-religious people would just pipe down and not have anything to say about the subject. Then it would make it easier to pull shit like this. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/04/...-about-state-education/#.U1q1T7hj-9s.facebook
Well, isn't that free speech To be clear, I would think it is outrageous if something like that could be really set into work in your country but I just don't see it actually being done and accepted at all. I agree with the general point of your post, but we don't seem to really habe to be afraid that people (wether they believe in God or not) will stop staying (vocally) active about this subject (and their influences/impacts on society)
It is really saddening that your question was treated that way. We do not grow if we do not seek. I often read threads and do not always reply as the debate becomes over done. I will say though that I often learn a lot from just reading and others opinions and views are interesting. If nothing else they often make me ponder what I do think.
the ones on hipforums? sure, if i ever bothered to read them anymore. and all other threads turn into a sex conversation.
I think such discussions are a bit pointless, and often people get quite fired up trying to prove what cannot be proven either way. Also, a lot of people who believe, believe in a very specific God - the Christian God, Allah etc. So often they're not just saying 'God exists' but saying that their particular version of God exists. Extreme atheists are just as bad, especially the ones who take science as a kind of dogmatic belief system in itself.
I don't think we will ever get rid of public schools but we are dangerously close to teaching creationism in public schools. Texas is making sure of that and as far as text books go.....as Texas goes, so goes the rest of the nation. Or so I'm told anyway.
Nah, it was not bad....as he also laughed later....but I knew not to go up to strange people and ask them that question again....lol
Not personally, probably because studying and understanding religion is a passion of mine as watching football would be a passion for someone else.
