My dreads are 2 years and 7 months today. In this picture they are 2 years and 4.5 months (don't have a nice more recent pic). Oh, and I'm a lion. Grrrrr!
Hello everyone! It's been a whiiiiileeee. My dreadies are going to be 4 years old in less than a couple of months... And I've been thinking more and more about cutting/brushing. I don't know, I think it's just the pain of washing and drying that gets to me. I wonder whether it's feasible to brush from the roots instead of tips, get a bit of hair back and then cut the rest of the dreads off as they are without brushing the whole thing out. That would mean less work, but also once I regret getting rid of them (which I will) I could start over and fashion in my first (current) set so that I don't have to grow my hair out much to get longer dreads (I really like the current length). Just not sure whether any of this would work. I don't know, I don't know! <dreadlock faith crisis>
Been admiring your dreads. They look very beautiful. I hope u find a answer to your question soon. Have u considered asking a hairdresser tht specialises in dreads?
Thanks :] I don't really trust hairdressers much - silly as it might be. I've had bad experiences even in very expensive places. I'd rather sort my hair out myself. I think that maybe I'd have to cut them first and then I could brush from the bottom - but that way I'd need to decide on the length at the start, which is tricky. Going the other way would allow me to keep brushing till I'm happy with the length and then stop. On the other hand, as I mentioned earlier, I know I'm going to miss them little buggers... I got used to them!
Have you decided yet? Your dreadlocks are gorgeous but I can totally understand the washing/drying dilemma you're having. I only had mine for 4 months until I brushed them for that same reason. When I have more time I will def get them again. Good luck with it all :2thumbsup: You'll make the right decision!
I Don't Understand What You Are Saying Here, You Don't Have To Have Time To Go The Natural Way With Dreads, You Just Throw Away Your Combs And Brushes, And Then Sit Back And Enjoy The Journey.... Cheers Glen.
I didn't really maintain them past the initial twist and rip session, but the washing and drying took too long with my current schedule of work and study. I feared tying them up when they were still damp (noone wants moldy hair!) and so I'd have to get up super early in order to wash and dry them for the day (must have hair tied up for work) and it got a bit much. Like I say, one day! Hopefully when I've finished uni and embark on my round the country travels. I shall make an effort to stop in to see you Glen :2thumbsup:
Hello again! Still here, and so are the dreadies, alrthough it's cold and wet again and so I'm thinking of cutting again (it seems to be a pattern now). Trying to get some photos up, as the dreadies got pretty long since my last message - they do look good I think, but also are getting very attched to each other (yeah, ok, that's a bad pun). So have to rip more often. Hope everybody is doing alright over here :]
