Interesting..Thank you for sharing it...speaking of hypochondriacs....I was close to one. It was tough, as after awhile I did not know if if I should be concerned or not.....

My personal belief about hypochondria is that the person carries undiagnosed illness.

I bought the book 'big pharma' by Ben Goldacre not too long ago, been dipping into it when i get chance, scary stuff. Am not gonna go on about the antibiotic situation as it's probably been exhausted, but medications, such as SSRI's was never meant to be a long term thing, yet it makes a lot of money if its taken over a lifetime. Therapy costs too much money it seems.

I'm a fan of bloodletting :) I think it's still part of medical practice today, in the form of phlebotomy.

I'm *horribly* allergic to antibiotics. My face balloons and morphs .. hives. Feel the hives on the inside, ewww!! Oh, horrible. hahaha

Oh no! I have been very stressed this year and had an eye infection (it really doesn't look bad but feels it) and was prescribed antibiotic drops. This was the first time since I was a kid that I'd been on antibiotics. It made no difference so they prescribed another lot, still nothing. Then oral tablets. Last time I went back they wanted to put me on long term antibiotics...wtf! If they don't work why am I taking them? So have grown a pair and refused, getting better already...naturally :)

I used to have to take them before a visit to the dentist, even for simple routine cleaning. It was fine, never a problem .. but when I got to my 20's (in the 90's) it suddenly changed and I still don't know why. Doesn't matter what class of antibiotic it is .. I just can't take them.

I've also started the natural remedy route, especially making changes in my diet. I was never an overly bad eater but I hadn't been eating enough seeds, nuts and fresh fruits. I think it does make a world of difference.

Do you use teabags for eye irritation / infection? They always helped me.

I use whatever I have, anything from standard tea to peppermint. There may be other herbal concoctions for specific ailments, here's a link for pink eye

I was in hospital a few weeks ago and was put under general anesthetic. I am grateful for this, something that was not available for people going back a some generations.
I have known people who were on statins to have a blackout while they were driving. This costs tax payers a number of ways. First the medication is subsidized. In Australia it is capped at $28/month to the "patient" when the true cost can be up to $100/month. Secondly, there is the cost of emergency services . The ambulance system and public hospitals are already being stretched. Thirdly, if this person was working there is the loss of income tax that they were paying. Fourthly, they get pensioned off early . All in the name of company profits.
