I agree with Karen J, alot of guys have great legs, especially shaven ones...omg...hehe. But I think guys are taught to feel ashamed of their bodies, subtely...or they just are...as well as society's BS.
I think it's to do with the perfect body image we see on tv and in the media It's not just women who feel conscious about there bodies which is a shame.
I asked my son about this since he graduated last year. He said it's because students don't have time to shower and make it to their next class on time anymore. That's pretty much what I was guessing.
While I don't agree completely with your description of the era we grew up in, it seems that young men are judged on appearance more than they were in our day. In the shower situation, the viewers are more willing to see, mentally size, and judge each other's bodies. That might explain the reluctance.
to start i think the short shorts in the video look just as ridiculous as the knee length shorts. shorts should be somewhere halfway between the crotch and the knee maybe an inch or two lower depending on the person. as for the school thing, i think it depends greatly on the individual school, you cant generalize about even a general area. i played basketball and for my school from jr high till i graduated i saw a total of one single person take one single shower after gym or a sporting event. (i would say it dosnt matter that he was the only black kid in my school that year because he was popular...like karens theory about jordan, you get away with a little more ridicule when you are more well liked/respected. i can speak for myself that if i didnt have to i wasnt going to take a shower being embarrassed of being a late bloomer. i was probably the only hairless sophomore in my school, and i stayed back a year so i was older than most of the kids in my class. time was a small factor in showering after gym but i dont think anyone would have showered if we had an extra 5 minutes. everyone would double up on deodorant and/or cologne if they had an extra sweaty day. my sister went to the same school and she had a similar story, she said she only heard of one kid taking a shower in our school. ( the black kid i spoke of took a shower in another school after an away game.) and if i remember correctly the one she heard of was well before she was there (four years before i was there) i think its like the shorts thing, if it becomes unfashionable then people conform to what is fashionable. although when i tried out for freshman basketball the coach said that after every game everyone has to take a shower. he said he had one year that every one of his players wore underwear to the shower after every game. later on in the week i learned that our school had a bowling team so i never heard anything more about the shower thing. dont know if they all wore shorts or skipped out on the "mandatory" showers or what. maybe the coach just liked to look at high school boys naked. so my final opinion is everyone has there reason but the most common reason is "if they arent doing it then im not doing it."
I would be if my legs were shaved It's one of the main reasons showers are skipped at school here too. Yes, it would suck for someone without any endurance and sweats like a pig...
I think you're dead wrong about back in the olden days, "nudity was strictly forbidden"--in fact you've said otherwise in other messages. Nudity was common among males in locker rooms, so taken for granted that in some schools and the YMCA, men were expected to swim nude. But it's certainly true that "Young men today have grown up in a culture where they see naked bodies and erections and sexual activities frequently". However, the context in which they see those things isn't just guys like themselves in the school locker room, but it's in pornography, where everyone knows the objective is to get a sexual thrill. So what we've got is a thoroughly established pattern, that "nudity is always sexual". At the same time, young people now grow up being warned about sexual predators, imagining themselves as victims. So, to stay safe, avoid sexual situations by keeping your clothes on. And even if it's a good thing that we're tolerant of gays now, we're also aware that anyone might be gay, maybe even the guy next to you in homeroom. His sex life is his business, but if he sees you naked, he might be getting into your business! So play it safe and stay covered.
When I said "nudity was strictly forbidden" I really meant everywhere EXCEPT locker rooms and the doctor's office. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well, yeah, like I said -- totally weird and it's hard to understand such strange behavior. Even in the last few posts, several different reasons have been stated and the only one that is rational is the "not enough time" excuse. But as we have seen, that is not the real reason, either, since even after athletic practices when there is plenty of time, no one takes a shower. I guess it's safe to say that it's a rare high school kid who would have the nerve to play nude volleyball or go to a nude beach. Or even wear shorts that end above the knees. Pity.
i know when i was in school, gym class ended 5 or 10 minutes early specifically to allow time for showers. days that it went until the end of the period were always a favorite, because showering gave us an excuse to be late to the next class. one person mentioned that people used to be expected to swim naked; it's not because nudity was so common, it's because modern pools were still a relatively new thing and the operators were afraid that the swimsuit fibers would damage the filters.
I wear 3/4 cargo type shorts. I think short shorts on guys are terrible and the only guys who seem to wear them are either the completely confident dickheads or old bus and taxi drivers. It isn't the length of the shorts that annoy me either, it's how they sit on the young guys who think it's a good look to have their ass and underwear hanging out and their shorts around their knees.
hmmhmm, and what is said guy is actually transsexual and with very feminine, shaven, legs? I am simply appaled at how judgemental some of you are about this. It's no wonder this guy I used to know was picked on for wearing them. He was feminine but not TS/TG, and people would glare at us sometimes when out in public...and he was sometimes teased...Thankfully he kept his head held high.
No dude shaved their legs where I'm from. If you did the whole school knew about it. The only ones that did were the cycling guys.
I can't stand hairy legs....on anyone. That's always been a deal breaker for me...unless it was very thin hair and even then...
