well, can't it be more than 8 feet or can't it be more than 10 feet? you could make it either way unless you have jelly legs (or trip/slip at the wrong moment), but it's just confusing to give two different maximum differences in the same sentence.

that said, i think you're underestimating the distance anyway. those fire escapes are probably at least 4 feet out, and they only cover maybe a third of the distance. at least judging by the picture you posted.

I just went up there with a tape and it's hard to keep the tape straight (it wants to bend and fall but I seem to have measured 99" to the fire escape. A bit more than 8 feet..the fire escape is probably 2 feet sticking out. The total gap (wall to wall) should then be 10 feet...

That would be a peice of cake for Neo!
