Hello! I'm 25, female, artist, currently living in a confusing world. I've recently just grown so tired of societal standards and expectations; go to college! Get a career in a field you don't love! Marry, have 2.5 kids, live in a 125k home and spend the rest of your days paying off insurmountable debts! I feel constantly pressured by family and media to turn my life into something I won't enjoy. I would LOVE to just connect with people who are more accepting of alternative ways of living, and who won't judge me for seeking my own path in life!
Welcome aboard! I think you'll fit in just fine with the rest of us! I'm 44, male, disabled from an accident at work, I despise society, looking at going back to college this fall, single, one son that doesn't live with me and ain't seen in many years (and may have a few others kids out there somewhere), own my own home in the country in Utah, and now spend my days trying to figure out how to snag myself a wifey. IN the mean time.... lol! Welcome aboard!
I totally feel ya. I browse www.ic.org ALOT still considering doing something self sustainable all while helping others. there are a few other sites with lists like the org site I posted, just have to look.. Good Luck
I'll check that out, thanks I've been wanting to get into self-sustainability for a while, but the significant other is not of the same mindset. We've been butting heads a lot, as of late. He doesn't really believe in spiritual wealth over material wealth, so that, along with everything else, has been a strain. I can't force my own ideals of happiness on others, though! I do have to respect that
Why do you equate your SO's reluctance over self-sustainability with spiritual wealth? Self-sustainability is a simple economic decision, not a religion. Seeing what you consume as determinant of your spirituality, is the ultimate materialist mentality.
Hi SpeckOfDust, I've been living in an intentional community for over 10 years, and it works quite well for me. As for your significant other, well, money is very useful. So maybe you can have the "best of both worlds" without having to compromise? Myself, I live in community but also work "outside" - I work for a startup company while I'm also working on creating a business in our community that will replace that outside income. We are near San Francisco. The community that I live in has been around for a long time - over 45 years. We are gradually becoming more and more sustainable - we've been rebuilding our soil with sheet composting and planting fruit trees and do a lot of re-use and recycling of building materials. We have our first solar panels, but its a work in progress. Working in the "real world" is challenging, but I have my "communal family" that is very supportive, and living on 23 acres there is lots of space for quiet meditation. Anyway, I suspect its all out there to find - or build - your dream(s). Best of luck.
