Well I am looking at a career change. I hate to spend loads of time in school but want to do something that will allow me to go just about anyplace. I am looking into the medical field. I am not a big fan of blood so not a nurse. I was thinking radiology, phlebotomy, medical records, billing, ? I am wantingto spend 2 years or less if possible in school again. I seem to figure that since all these baby boomers are turning geezer the demand for medical personal is high and growing. I have looked at several job sites and the have lists a mile long. Anyone know of a good field, school anything online ect?
You might try being a medical coding specialist/medical biller. My mom had a job in medical billing for awhile, and considered getting educated in it. It's fairly easy work according to her, and you don't need a college education for it. You can get an associate's degree in it or go to a technical college too. Your not required to for most of that kind of job, but it'll help you get a job easier and there's pretty good demand for them. The only dowbside is I've heard it's like a revolving door like telemarketing, but that might just be in my wonky town. You work somewhere for awhile, move on, then move on, then move on, then work at the original place again after awhile. Not steady employment. But you should check it out, because my city is just retarded. And they will be more relunctant to fire you if you're educated, of course. I'm toying with the idea of being a doctor or a pharacist, but as I tell myself, I've got plenty of time to think. For now
not a big fan of blood, then don't go into phlebotomy cuz you'll be taking people's blood all the time.
I was in school towards Physicians Assistant and dropped it for something else. The reasons were solid and it took some good soul searching to figure it out but I'm much happier these days. I'll say that billing can be a headache depending on who you work for especially when it comes to the constantly updated coding systems, insurance regs etc... , phlebotomy is indeed drawing blood all day, radiology is highly competitive, I'm not sure what pharmacists or pharm techs go through. I don't know if you live in the U.S. but you may want to take a good long look at where health care is going and who owns it. 2 years can change things a great deal. ... just my .02 but good luck in your endeavors.
