Anybody else think 185 degrees is a little TOO hot for hot water?

Once I install the hot water coil in my wood/coal furnace I'm sure 185 would seem quite pleasant.

my hot water heater is set on something ridiculous...not sure what but probably around 185. I've been meaning to reset it because I burn myself every time I go to wash dishes.

FYI.....there should be another faucet right next to the one you use. If you turn that one on at the same time the water will cool down a bit. ;)

It's especially important to set it too a lower, safe setting if there will be children using the water.

It probably burns the food off and sanitizes the dishes at the same time.

Water that hot is a safety issue. It's dangerous to children and the elderly. It also causes higher energy bills, due to conductive heat loss thru the sides of the tank.

However, if your water isn't hot enough, it won't clean as well and your pipes will tend to get clogged because soap and grease will accumulate.

Best water temps are 120-150 F.

We don't pay for the hot water here, so it's okay to waste as much as we want. We also blast the heat with the windows open cuz we don't pay for that shit either, and cuz the heat only has two settings, none and extrememly fuckin hot!
