The oldest depictions from the oldest schools of iconography depict Christ as dark skinned.

The genetics of Christ are something that has been discussed in theological schools, but I am not familiar with much of the discussion myself.

1) Mary, it could be argued, contributed an X gene herself, with the Holy Spirit creating a new Y gene for Christ.

2) God could have spoken completely new DNA into existence independent of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

You are right on that. But studies have shown that Christ was clearly of semitic stock----which would make sense because Mary was not a Roman, nor was she a Greek. She was a Jew and we know this because:

In that one book in the Bible when it says that Jesus, as a young man, was walking along the beach with his best hat ready to go to the temple. Suddenly a big wave came and picked him up and pulled him into the ocean. Mary looked up at the heavens and said, God, I thought he was your son, you're going to kill him now?!

But truthfully, Mary was Jewish and spoke Aramaic, and was therefore from one of the tribes of Canaan. He was not white, but he was not black either. The academic conclusion is that today he would probably be singled out---profiled----as a terrorist if he traveled by plane.
