The first time I went was in March in 2004 (??) I think. I was there Monday-Saturday. It snowed 8 inches on Tuesday so it made the rest of the week cold and difficult but I'm used to snow and cold. Didn't bother me much and I instantly fell in love with the city. I've been back 3 more times for a week each time. I love it more every time. I keep thinking I'm romanticizing it in my head and when I go back it won't be as great as I remember but its always better than I remember. It seriously breaks my heart when I have to leave. I hate to admit I almost cried boarding the plane this last time.
Boston is my favorite place in the world...but I just won't be able to stand the snow and cold for the rest of my life. I'm gonna move south in 2 years once I finish school.
21 hour drive for me. That's why I always hop on a plane. Boston is soooo expensive though. I'd be there more if it weren't so expensive to travel to.
Yes, staying right in the city is ridiculous. You can easily stay at a hotel that is in the suburbs, usually only a 15-20 minute ride.
We stayed at a best western I think in south that wasn't to bad. Had to take a train that was super easy.
I did that the first time. It's worth it to me to stay downtown. I've stayed at the Park Plaza a few times. This last time I stayed at The Revere.
The hotels are expensive. Weekend flights from here are cheap. Last summer, I checked the Marriott Long Wharf: over $500 a night! :willy_nilly: :banghead: At least it has decent subway access. I love flying in from the south, over all those beautiful little islands! Someday, I want to check some of them out. The ferry ride to Salem (north) was spectacular!
Over July 4th week this year I got The Revere for $230 a night. I was kind of surprised it wasn't more. It adds up quick when you stay for a week plus add airfare. I've taken the train to Salem a few times and done a few whale watching things. Kinda fun to go past those little islands. Never taken the time to visit any though.
HA!! That's because the Marriott long wharf is the most expensive hotel in the entire city! There are cheaper places to stay downtown.
I'm not from boston but we share a homesteading dream. I have also just started my locs 2 months ago. Too bad we are not closer. Good luck on your journey
