I just finished reading it Monday. I thought it was a great book, one of the best I've read in a while. The plot is excellent and keeps you intrigued. "The Da Vinci Code" is one of those books that will never bore you. I thought the ending could've been better but it makes sense that it should've finished the way it did. In a nutshell, the book is a must read. Enjoy!

I wouldn't say it was the ending the book that made it good...the book peakes around 100 pages before it ends...Brown (the author) should have ended it sooner.

It's about a secret orginization called the Priory of Sion dating back to 1099 CE, which included a lot of famous artists (like Da Vinci) and influential people. The head of the current-day Priory - who is also the curator of the Louvre - is mudered, along with the other 3 top members, and he leaves his granddaughter clues to help her carry out the mission of the Priory, with help from an American symbolism and culture expert.
I haven't finished it yet, I'm on about pg. 275 so far - it's so amazing!
Does anyone know if any of the orginizations or beliefs expressed are non-fictional? Cause right about now, they've got me believing every word....

According to my Art History professor, it has a lot of misinformation in it.

There is an organization called the Priory of Zion but it does not date back to the time of Da Vinci. Most historians agree that the Priory of Zion is just a myth...a hoax...(Kind of like the Illuminati)...A covertly powerful secret society whose members are unknown but regularly control most affairs in the country. Sort of like a present day Mafia...In Western Literature the Priory of Zion is in other stories but all are believed to be fabled myths about the Holy Grail...the crusades...the ark of the covenant...Where and When these stories started I do not know?

Although a chunk of the book I would consider a great FICTION novel, there are twists of truth running throughout it. It clearly states in the VERY beginning of the book that the Priory of Sion did, in fact, exist according to recent things recovered. Everything about art, places, and historical events in the book is also true. It is the actual plot that is false.

Oh, and if you've read Angels and Demons, which is about the Illuminati, it is just as good, if not better then the Da Vinci Code. Dan Brown is phenominal. I look forward to the sequal of the Da Vinci Code which should be coming out in the summer of 2005!

Yes, there is a sequel. There are clues throughout the whole book and on the inside of the cover that tell you little bits of info on what the next book is about.
Alot of the info presented in the book are facts like the things presented about the pagan religion and alot of the symbology. I believe the knights of templar and the priory of sion did exist as did the illuminati in angels and demons. The illuminatti's symbol is right on our $1 bill. To say these groups don't exist would be like saying the skull and bones which Bush and Kerry amongst many other very powerful men we know belong to doesn't really exist either.
Dan Brown is a brilliant writer and since I have read his 4 books I have been put on a path of interest which I would have otherwise not have gotten into. There are soooo many books out there that go further into some of the societies and religious things that Brown talks about. I just read holy blood holy grail which was kind of a hard read and now I'm reading the gospels of mary magdelene. There are countless books about the priory, knights of templar and illuminati as well.
To those who didn't finish yet.....enjoy!

A sequel to "The Da Vinci Code"? Nice! I heard "Angels and Demons" was wicked good. I should be getting it tomorrow (can't wait!). I like the subject matter Dan Brown talks about in his book. As far as all of it being real or fake it doesn't matter. As long as the book is entertaining and keeps me awake at night that's all I need. Does anyboby know some good sites where I can read more about these secret societies or the Holy Grail? Thanks!

http://www.danbrown.com is a great resource to look into his other books and also the books he had read that interested him in the topics he talks about. If you just go to http://www.barnesandnoble.com or http://www.google.com, just search for mary magdalene or some of the ancient brotherhoods and you should come up with a lot!!

Dan Brown states his next book, the sequal to Da Vinci Code should take place right where this one left off, but this time, it will be on American soil!

Thank you! That was very helpful. By the way, I love that Carpe Diem concept. Herrick is one of my favorite Cavalier poets.

I read it over the weekend hvaing bought it for a long train journey. It was absorbing, though I agree it peaked a little before the end. Great page turner, though. Just bought one of his others, not started it yet though.
