As much as I don't get in to the holidays, I love to see people get into it and have a good time. My family loves it. I guess when you get into it and love the holidays like you do, it makes things more special for those around you. I wish I could rent a happy looking wcw look - alike android to laugh it up with my family. I could just sit back and watch them have fun without having to fake enjoyment. Well, I guess I would be faking it with the android, oh well.
Not really into it. I don't like the drama. I don't mind being with family but I prefer family time during the non-holidays. As for the gifts and Santa thing...I'm terrible at that, I cannot sit around and lie to kids about the Santa thing...I already told my daughter there is no Santa and some people in my family thought I was the anti-christ for doing so. I told her if she wanted the truth I would tell her the truth, due to the pressure from other people in my family she decided to believe in it anyway, which is fine, it's her choice...but when she comes to me asking whether Santa will give her what she wants...I'm like "don't ask me about Santa", I cannot tell a lie.
happy for those who are enjoying it. sorry for those who are stressed by it. greatful and fortunate to be somewhat detached from either. kinda wish the fanatics and the corporate retailers would take their mutual war over it somewhere else and give me back the fantasy of everyone sharing a mutual love for peace and universal non-hierarchal consideratin.
Usually at this time of the year (for many previous years) , I decorate the outside of my home with 1000's of Xmas lights galore but have lost interest in doing it thou. It is time consuming but is rewarding when hundreds of others get to see my efforts thou. But I just seem to even want to do anything like that this year. Just looking forward to seeing what I get for presents on Xmas Day or sometime about then.
I have a tree a bit like that but its more like a mushroom shape thou. My tree is not that genital in appearance lol
It's not that they don't offer. They do. They just never actually show up to help. Kind of defeats the offer. I make chicken and noodles with home made noodles for Christmas for 26 people. Do you think anybody comes over to help me roll out 15 batches of home made noodles? nooooo. They always say "Let me know when you are going to do that. I'll come and help" I let them know and I'm here all by myself. My family are assholes. haha
I hope it's ok to join this forum, and this thread. First time on this website. I feel nothing for the holidays, and feel relieved I moved to Thailand so I can escape family reunions and holidays. I was annoyed an old friend I knew growing up in Haiti sent me two handmade glass angel ornaments he'd made, so I felt obliged to hang them on the wall. Luckily, Thailand doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas, so I feel like I dodged a bullet. They have great celebrations of their own, though, that I love..like songkran, where the entire country has a giant water fight on the hottest day of the year!
A giant water fight sounds awesome! I don't know how Haiti is, but here in the states most celebrations are centered round buying and selling things. Most people assign their own special meanings to the celebrations and have a fun time sharing the experiences with family and friends, but the celebrations are still tainted with greed in the background. It's good that you feel good in Thailand!
Sounds like you need to whip their asses into shape! Everyone 'round here knows if mama's not happy, NO ONE is happy. >:[
That's exactly what I need to do. Maybe I won't make noodles this year and when they complain I'll let them know why. One of my nicknames is Mama. My former boss used to call me that too and say that exact same thing about me. It's hard because they all appreciate what I do and they thank me a million times but that doesn't help in the days leading up to it when I'm working 10-12 hour days on my feet and still have to get everything ready.
Yeah, being appreciated is nice, but that doesn't give them a free pass to treat you that way. That's funny about your nickname .
Don't forget Mardi Gras! Fat Tuesday is later than usual this year, March 4, but the parades start just after the 12 days of Christmas.
I like having a break. And I like to travel away somewhere over New Year. Starting a new year, refreshed and full of passion for whatever I have planned is good. But Xmas, and tolerating relatives etc can be a bit of a pain..
