I think I'd rather be a poor 30 yr old because hopefully I'd have a lot more years ahead of me. You guys?

Trouble is if you're poor at 30 you might be poorer still at 70. I was poor at 30, and now at 56 not much better off.

But i'd go for poor 30. In your mid fifties, 30 seems really young. When I was 30, I began to worry I was getting old.

People can live for a long time though. I should have said 50 or 60 instead of 70.

Depends on your definition of dirt poor. Are we talking Canada poor? US poor? Haiti poor?

I'm 38 and sometimes I wish I was 30 again but....my 20s were better than my teens. My 30s have been better than my 20s so whenever I think about my 40s I just remind myself of how much I'm going to rock in my 40s. I'm going to kick some ass!

Let's say if you are worried about where your next meal is coming from then you're probably poor.

Well the poor and 30 thing, been there, done that, so I'll shoot for the rich and 70, I mean do I really have a choice?....

unless I get rich enough by the time I'm 70 to be able to have a time machine made and then go back to when I was thirty and.....

I have a different meaning of poor. Your life is poor when you are confirming into a life that you don't really want to live and slaving your life away in a job you don't really like.

Thats actually a pretty hard question. I mean being 20 and poor would be horrible. So 30 would be even worse. And I wouldn't fancy being old, esp being accelerated to that age. (Altho by the time I'm 70, maybe it will be like being 30 today..)

Some people sacrifice decades of their life to be super rich, then find they miss their youth and don't value the money.

I suppose it depends on what you make of each option. I mean some rich trust fund kids live like poor people and are really happy...

well, as i seem to be a non-wealthy nearly 70 year old (i've been 65 for more then half a year now) i can't say as i feel any strong objection to either one. i would have loved to have been a wealthy 30 year old for that matter, but the roads to such status that were open to me, came too much in conflict with my conscience to be followed.

now if someone thinks they want to make me wealthy at 70 because i was living below the ragged edge of poverty in my 30s, i certianly have no objection to they're doing so. though again and still, i seriously do not expect to violate my conscience to get there.

i don't want to sound like i'm whinning. i've enjoyed the diversity of the life i have lived. but if i could have gotten the education i knew at the time i wanted, but which parents, advisors, and a number of circumstances prevented, during my childhood and early adolescence, i WOULD have been in on the ground floor of the digital revolution that brought us these computers we have now. i might have been another bill gates or steven jobs. or i might not. maybe i wasn't really that smart. but would have liked to have had a better chance to find out.

like i said, i'm not whinning. i managed to get through life without wealth and without being overly depressed by the lack of it. would i have kept my integrity if i had had the opportunities wealth would have afforded? i don't know, but i rather imagine i would have liked to have found out. one thing i would have preferred, far more then any amount of wealth, would have been a lot less anxiety and reasons for it. now that i will bitch about, because there really is no need for my parents generation that of their parents, to have created a world as anxiety generating as the one we live in now.

Rich and 70. Pay everything off, leave some for my family and walk off to a mountain to contemplate whatever comes to mind.

What about those women who were poor at 30 and married the rich 70? ;)

I would choose poor at 30. I was never much into the MRS degree way of thinking. I would be comfortable enough at 70. :)
