I hear this all the time now. People seem to think Colorado is arogtant because of the weed laws. I don't think Purp's opinion is related to that. And there are plenty of nice stoners out here like me Why are you so rude to Sunshine about this? College is not for you. But that does not mean you have to put down others who decide to go. Maybe you can find a decent wage without an education but MANY jobs require college. And if you want to do them you must play the game. Although you are right student loans are ridiculous.
I'm hoping to be in Colorado by midsummer-early fall... Legal weed and world class trout fishing. Sounds like home away from home.
I dont think legal weed is related either. But the whole scene around here is pretty shit and kids think they can get away with more. There are, however, a fuck load of arrogant assholes in Colorado. More densely populated than I've experienced elsewhere. All their "Native" and "No Vacancy" bumper stickers. And of course, the enlightened yoga-stars. I fucking saw a big ass Nissan truck/SUV thing with a bumper sticker that said "My Other Vehicle is The Mahayana" - I wanted to stick a burning rag down their gas tank I was so sick. There are lots of nice people everywhere, though, this was a localized rant that got blown out of proportion due to misreading and blatant flame-baiting. There was some area available for decent conversation, despite this thread starting as a drunken rant. I was rude to sunshine because she came in here, completely disregarding my initial post and had a stick up her butt, trying to make this an issue with her. She called me an idiot right off the bat and I replied by remarking how funny it is that I am an idiot, when the name-caller didn't even digest what I was saying - how I tried to make it clear that I was speaking of a specific demographic. It spiraled into a shit-show because people don't like me here, apparently, and whenever they can get a free hit in, they do it. I think that's fine and dandy, but it also just further broadened and proved my point that education is fucked and people are, on the whole, worse off because of it. Whether monetarily or not being able to think critically or analyze or try to extrapolate anything out of their own response that contributes to a discussion. So - I feel fully justified in defending myself, though I don't think it's very necessary. I'm not trying to protect any sort of identity here - these are forums that I have been visiting for years, mostly for entertainment. Joker can tell you that a lot of that entertainment has been through mindless flame-wars. We've had an ongoing dispute over who sucks more since I first came here. I am super mad at myself for not getting into the trout fishing here...I love eating fresh fish...and I am not eating any ocean animals anymore.
Well you still have plenty of time if you're not planning on moving... It's never too late to pick up fishing...
fishing sounds like a good way to get away from arrogant college kids. Can anybody help me out with this one though? I don't fully understand what a "college kid" is. In Quebec, where I am from, we have a very unusual educational system where we go to high school 'till grade 11, then do 2 or 3 years of either technical or pre-university stuff in cegep (which I guess is like college?) and then we go to university (and most undergrad programs last 3 years instead of 4). So what exactly is college, or a college town? Is that a town with a university in it and a bunch of bars basically? Here in Montreal, I guess we are a college town. We have 22 colleges and something like 6 or 7 universities, with like 4 or 5 campuses each -- and practically everyone either works for one of them, teaches or attends one. Apparently we have like a quarter million uni/college students out of like 1.5 million people, and that's not counting teachers and staff. But what exactly is a college in the US though? Is it the same as our university, or the same as our college/cegep?
Because they mindlessly tow the line of the status quo regarding education. Let's face it, every dumb fuck goes to college these days. College means little more than a piece of paper that says you're qualified to do some job so you can make a certain amount of income.
Maybe college is a lot different in the US (other than the astronomical cost), and maybe it depends on which school you pick, but that is not at all representative of my experience in university. We are taught communication and critical thinking skills and we taught to question the status quo and examine our society in terms of the exploitative power structures that exist within it.
I think my professor said that yesterday... he also followed it with "you guys are in a lot of debt, are you sure this is right for you?" And it's a self graded class
May not be though... Some guys... Especially the trout guys with the long rods... Can be real dbags... But then again there's dbags everywhere... Learn to ignore them and live life or let it eat away at you til you're a bitter old shell of your former self US schools is k-12... Usually 11th and 12th may have college style classes... And some kids can even take college credits while in hs... Then there is technical/community college which offers mainly 1-2yr degrees... Colleges/Uni offer 4yr with option of masters/doctorate degrees I live in a college town. 1 tech and 2 unis. Downtown is just 5-6 blocks of bars with little stores in between. Rent is for shit because renters milk college kids for every cent and most are ran by slum lords.
yeah montreal is kinda like that too. Rent is fucking expensive, unless you live in a really crappy area of town. In my program at my college, it's like 60 or 70% rich jewish JAP type girls. They get on my fucking nerves fast
