And I'll bet you were bummed when the car died on you, right? Hondas are awesome!

At 300K miles, I think some wear is allowed. :wheelchair:

i wonder if honda CR-Vs hold up as well as the cars you guys are talking about. that's what my wife drives and it's only got somewhere around 150K. it's a 2000. i'd like to make that last as long as possible, after my 97 ford taurus goes to shit (which will be very soon. the engine is pretty good, and it's only got like 120K, but the frame is mostly rust haha)

Actually I was quite happy about it. I never really wanted the car to begin with. I don't like Hondas and I only bought it because the motor blew in my truck and I needed something to drive. My buddy had it and didn't need it, so I grabbed it for 500 bucks.

I have to admit, I loved my '98 Civic hatchback because it was the better built of the two, and the 2002 I'm not as fond of. However, the car is still running strong, and I'll drive it until it croaks. I've loved Hondas after my hate/hate you more relationship with VW.

Have to be honest, though...considering a Toyota next time.

Just an update...ended up only putting $600 into the Honda, and still plugging along at 196k+ miles.

Go check out the Honda forums and marvel at the mileage some people are getting out of these cars!

Anyone on here own a Honda Fit? Considering one of those next time around.

I've purchased over 20 cars since I was 15, and the only time from a dealer was when I worked for one and could get used cars for $500 over what they paid.

If they are asking $24k, they probably have $15-17 in it at best. Deal with the private market is my advice. Take out the middle man.

My lil brothers 01 Toyota truck that runs just fine, has some minonr damages in the front, no big deal, but the repairs cost more than the truck is worth. So he claimed the truck totaled, got $3,500 for it, dropped $1,200 into normal repairs and walked away with $2,300. If he ever does sell it, it would be private and in cash.

Dealing with dealerships is really stupid unless you have more money than you can handle. If you put in the time, you can find great deals on vehicles that people are selling because they need money and are desperate for various reasons.

The only thing i would buy from a dealership new is a motorcycle/ 4wheeler/ dirtbike/ snowmobile ect.. all under 10,000, so as low as 5,000, brand new and in full with cash.

If you want to save money, research a car first, find a reliable model.

Then go to a private seller. Have the car checked by a mechanic. If it checks out, pay cash within the range your research has shown.

Buying this way saves you money in interest payments as well as lower excise and sales tax.

Don't carry a balance on your credit card either.

Debt should really only be for investments that pay for themselves, and for emergencies, imho.
