In the 70's we let them come to our country to do the 'dirty' jobs no one else would do anyway. In the last decades most have come to escape war or other life threatening situations and enjoy a life in peace and prosperity. So yeah, why shouldn't those people come here? There is still an immigrant policy. Coming here solely for economic reasons seems not to be the idea. Although 'we' on the other hand are naturally allowed to go anywhere globally to maintain our economy...

I think most of the migration to the UK in the last few decades has been from European countries (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia) - and mainly for economic reasons.
A lot of it has been temporary.
I do see a lot more Polish people - for e.g. - settling here full time (and indication of that being the No. of new 'polish' businesses).
Rather than working for 3-5 and then going home.
I don't think the majority have come to the UK for asylum...

    Recent stat's: https://www.gov.uk/government/publi.../immigration-statistics-january-to-march-2013

I don't think that is quite true. Many places wouldn't let us in, many places you need to have employment and be able to - economically - support yourself. I know what you mean, though.

That last sentence was of course sarcastic. If corporations from let's call them 3rd world countries would do business here as 'our' corporations have done business over there riptide would really tear his nuts off I think. Which shows again how we're applying double standards in these matters up until this day.

Well, the oil and gas industry is a good example. Let's say what Shell is doing in certain african countries like Nigeria. Can you imagine an african country's company getting the chance to exploit gas reserves in western countries in the way 'we' have done over there. This is what I ment with my sarcastic comment.

I knew what you meant - I just didn't know which countries you meant (given the past posts relating to 'Arabs' etc) I think it wouldn't be any different if an African multinational managed to be big enough to manage an oilfield etc. It would probably show how far Africa had come (and achieved). Doesn't BP become 'British Petroleum' when there is an oil spill?

Like I said in the beginning when I hear americans or europeans speaking about 3rd world slacker countries I often think they mean african countries instead of middle eastern.
I have seen in documentaries that lots of middle eastern people are pissed of about America partly due to their corporations activity in their native lands. Although this may be for dubious reasons it is silly to all blame it on religious extremism since it is more than likely if for example arabic or persian corporations would be present in riptide's area he would react the same.

Well, anybody referring to counties as such probably isn't interested in any nuances, and they are more likely to grasp at anything. Much like terrorists.

During the 1995-1996 shutdowns, the U.S. national debt was about $5 trillion. Gingrich and Clinton agreed during a shutdown to balance the budget within 7 years. They never agreed on what to cut to achieve this. Clinton declared in his 1997 SOTU address that "The era of big government is over."

The national debt is now about $17 trillion.

Our government dosent want to keep emigrants out. If so then the border would look like the WWII memorial. Wake the fuck up people. Nothing, not one single thing in government happens without a well thought out plan!!!

    Orison, you've gained weight.

More stuffed than a food stamp recipient at Walmart after an EBT glitch.

everything is real. just not in the same way people tell each other it is.

lots of things are 'rigged'. that's called playing chess. conflicting interests are always trying to rig things on each other.

even more things are completely different from what they seem. that's not the same as unreal. just not what it seems.

when the illusionist creates an illusion, its not like his sitting there contemplating his navel

when faced with a room full of illusionists, never make assumptions about their agendas. not all will be the same. not all will be different.

the real illusion is that the horizontal influence is corrupting when its the vertical.

every nameable ideology is an illusion.

I would HAVE a job because I would have a social security card with my correct name on it, a requirement of the place I intend to work...

and I find myself thinking often here lately how much this fucking real shutdown fucking sucks. :cuss:

Yep, it is easy for people to deem it 'not real' when they are not the ones being affected by it.

You've been doing some good botanical work out there, including finding a native plant outside it's expected territory.

This probably screws up the end of your yearly tenure doing the botanical work. If I remember, you do other non-botanical work in the colder weather months.

I am done with the botanical work for the season... but I was going to be starting a new interpretive Park Ranger job right when this government shutdown happened.... It just makes me really sad to see people turned away from National Parks and it is making all of the Park Rangers really sad.
