Silica Gel??

Our neighborhood burnout teenager (every village needs an idiot....) claims to get some kind of buzz from smoking the contents of silica gel dessicant packages. Has any one ever heard of this? I have looked it up on snopes.com, and didn't find an urban legend about it. Sounds like smoking plastic to me.
