You know that DPR ordered a hit on someone because the dude told him he would leak a shit load of everybody's personal info including their names, quantities, addresses etc. That's the main thing that caused the site to get seized. And yes, that was a fed posing as the "Hitman" asking for $150,000 in bitcoin. DPR was a dumb ass because he didn't even encrypt his messages AND they caught him in San francisco at a public library. He should've been more cautious and moved the fuck out of the US. Also...the war on drugs will never end. Sure, silk road got seized but I'm sure there are many many many more websites like silk road.
Yeah. The war "Against" drugs won't ever end. If it does, it wont be the government walking out high-fiving each other. Like I said. The FBI seized 1 website that took them 2 and a half years to investigate. Now that the Silk road isn't around anymore, I'm 100% sure that there are already a few websites similar to SR. DPR also gave an interview to Forbes for God's sake. What was he thinking? If he'd been more cautious, SR would be around for at least a few more years. Wish I saw SR before it got shut down, looked pretty categorized from the pics.
Pretty much. It's pretty naive to think that they are underground at all with the way people talk about sources online and all. But has anyone noticed how the official SR shutdown page has the IRS listed as the first investigation bureau on the list? I think they're mostly just pissed because they weren't getting a cut of the 1.2$ billion market. Good old government.
Has anyone considered the possibility that the person who got arrested is not the real DPR? The whole thing about the hit seems made up as a scare tactic. Anyone with half a brain would realize the inherent issue with ordering a hit over an anonymous internet service. In this scenario he's basically handing over $80000 for nothing. There's no way to prove that the hit happened, and no way to get the money back if he'd already sent the coins. The whole thing just makes no sense, and the way the news stories couple that with the "gun trading" myth makes it seem like an attempt to demonize SR in the public eye. Something just makes me think that not all of this story is factual and the FBI/DEA or whatever haven't necessarily caught the real DPR.
I heard that there was gun trading on SR in its very early times but was quickly switched to the armory because there was no market there and the prices were too high. The armory shut down pretty quickly too. Its not completely untrue to say that guns have been traded there, but to claim that its a real part of the market is misleading, purposefully.
I have heard rumors about it not being the real DPR. But the fact still is the site is down, that is all that matters to the users. Of course the police want this story trending and it is important to make DPR as much of a villain as possible. I would hope he did not order a hit, but who knows.
I only checked them out once or twice, and that was a year or more ago, so I just assumed that it stayed the same. I think that they probably would have stuck around longer if they just stuck to drugs and paraphernalia. Allowing the sale of weapons and fake passports, etc is just asking for trouble.
The "who is the real DPR" myth is interesting... There was supposed to be an original DPR who sold the site to this guy.. I think he actually admitted it.. but if earlier trails lead to this Ulrich then I don't know when the switch was made... Kinda interesting. The murder story is interesting too.. It says that DPR ordered a hit on a guy and the hitman who took it was actually an undercover cop.. But there was supposed to be photographic evidence of the murder (so DPR would pay).. Its kinda like a soap opera.. It looks like Karma fucked him in the ass.... This was the second big online market tho.. Right? There was a "farmers market" before this..and open vendor database etc... Markets come and go.. The lesson is: always use pgp when buying because the market can go down.. Always bounce the coins around so they can not be traced back to you. never trust anyone because everyone could be LEO.
I read earlier today that the first hit he took out for 80 000$ was definitely an undercover. But then he took out a second hit for 150 000$, which may or may not have been an undercover from my understanding of it. It seems weird that cops would bait him to try to pay for a second hit if they had evidence of one already.
Maybe they thought that they might have trouble getting their hands on his bitcoins, so they wanted to get as much out of him beforehand as possible.
