because he knew there would still be racial prejudice and racial crime even if the slaves were free. and look at that, over 140 years later and he was still correct.
“I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, [applause]-that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.” – Abraham Lincoln (Lincoln, Fourth Debate)
Who was 'they'? It wasn't lincoln and he was a republican. That was my only point people. Back to the topic... The GOP appear to be willing to do anything to usurp Obama, it's been their mission since before he even took office. "...the Republican plot to obstruct President Obama before he even took office, including secret meetings led by House GOP whip Eric Cantor (in December 2008) and Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (in early January 2009) in which they laid out their daring (though cynical and political) no-honeymoon strategy of all-out resistance to a popular President-elect during an economic emergency. “If he was for it,” former Ohio Senator George Voinovich explained, “we had to be against it.” Read more: http://swampland.time.com/2012/08/2...the-gop-plot-to-obstruct-obama/#ixzz2gKM5GBid
Two things it will do that are pretty fantastic. Premiums will be more flat, and not as dependent on your physical condition or your age. Unfortunately it will still be more expensive for an older person than a younger person. When in reality, premiums should be the same for everyone. Sure they may vary from company and plan, but not by age or health condition. Also pre-existing conditions will not be a consideration. This should have always been illegal, now it is thanks to this plan.
True. I had more posts but somehow they went away. Since 2004 I have been divorced, changed jobs twice, moved twice, had a bicycle accident and 7 plastic surgeries, had 6 hernia surgeries and a rotator cuff repair. So I guess I have not had much time for Hip Forums!
No, not really. It is a lot more complicated than that seeing as the political landscape, not to mention the times in general, was completely different.
They should change the name Obamacare to credit the man who really pioneered it: Romneycare. Then watch and see as democrats change their minds about it over night. It will be hilarious.
Too late Obama already used the name himself just the other night...not something I would have advised.:banghead:
They were, but I seem to have missed the correlation between slavery and ObamaScare. The government claims $2.7T ($8680 per person) was spent on healthcare in 2011. The $8680 per person figure relates to the entire 2011 population both insured and uninsured. And ObamaScare claims it will provide insurance to millions more persons, providing greater care including coverage of pre-existing conditions at a lower cost. While that may be true for those who receive much more care for little or nothing, the costs must be borne somewhere. To call such a plan 'single payer' is not only misleading, but dishonest and untrue. It amounts to another progressive redistribution of wealth program, paid for from a single 'pot' by those the Federal government can impose another tax upon without need of their consent. No wonder Ayn Rands' "Atlas Shrugged" is denigrated so intensely by the Left. Even David Copperfield can't produce illusions at the level our government can.
"Single payer" is a perfect description. Medical providers would have one hoop to jump through rather than literally tens of thousands.
Well, the gov't is officially shut down because of obamacare. I feel lonely, nobody is spying on me. So I ripped the tag off my mattress.
Its a good night for America, Until they sign some type of bullshit excuse to 'turn it back on' at 9:45am, Shortly after they meet again. I hope they stick to it and don't budge. I hope it hits every dem 100x over, What was Osama saying to rally votes, Payback!
Are you crazy? That tag is for your own protection, that would be like drinking a bottle of bleach because its against the law.
I don't know where the $8600 per person number comes from, from what I've read it's closer to $4000 (total health care expenditure per capita), compared to bout $1800 here in Canada where out health outcomes are better on average. This tells me that the $$/capita is clearly not the best indicator of health outcomes, and that the Canadian system runs more efficiently than the American system. But we're evil socialists, so I guess you wouldn't want to do that.
Obamacare is about the materialism that matters, not being assured that we know our careers for the future of anyone's lives. And who directly, politically on the Right, justified the nature of determining will to desired, able-bodied work? The duty to be a satisfied materialist (of course, it's my own business what idealistic interests I have) is the best I get from the right.:biker:
