    Where do you live?

And I never thought of DC that way, it was just how I grew up. Northwest is like that around the mall in particular. I'd say 90% of the homeless in that area are severely mentally ill.

Most of DC the yuppies stay out of and live in the burbs. Southeast don't go without a crew.

Around the mall? What does that mean? That is just my view of DC--from a complete outsiders perspective. That and a huge clusterfuck of traffic. That being said I've only been there for 2 weeks of my life, maybe. Not enough time. I'd go back...some of the surrounding towns are pleasant enough--Alexandria, for example.

Where do I live? I'm a gypsy, of sorts ;).

Oh, that was what I thought you might have meant but the context of it confused me: "Northwest is like that around the mall in particular. I'd say 90% of the homeless in that area are severely mentally ill. "

I thought you meant Northwest America. Not DC. Makes much more sense now.

And yes, old town Alexandria is very nice. I prefer Arlington, McLean, Tysons Corner, Reston.. But I had to get away from that rat race. It's home but couldn't stay. So I know what you mean about the gypsy thing.

Yeah, DC is separated into quadrants. NW is things like museums, businesses, NGO headquarters, momuments. Georgetown is right there, Bethesda MD close by. The rest is more or less residential and hood.

I've been up there many times, and Alexandria is the only place I stay anymore when I have business in the DC area. The whole DC area is crazy, but Alexandria is the opposite of crazy. I guess that's why real estate in that town is like 400% higher than it is at home. If I lived there, I would be poor.

A car is a liability up there, not an asset. I stay where I can ride the metro everywhere.

In England, the pathetic "class system" isn't about money. Its about families, what high school you went to, accent, mannerisms, and outlook. A mixture.

There's an international class structure which slightly conflicts with the English one. But if you are a billionaire in England, you still won't be "upper class", by the traditional and practical defintion of it.

What am I? Well my parents call themselves "middle class". Their parents were a mix. Two of my grandparents were born working class, my others inherited money from famous tycoons/ a "dynasty" in family. They were friends with prime ministers etc, titles of sorts in family. All that shit.

I went to a State school, in a normal city. So compared to the plum in the mouth pricks I met at university, I considered myself "modern working class" (much to the outrage of my silly parents hehehe!)

I've been exposed to different stuff. Never had any family help with career, and was pretty poor at university time and when starting out etc. I've also had the mansion, servants, chaffeured rolls royce life, and been exposed to insincere types who try and crawl in. Weird really..

I've got working class friends and identify with working class people in some ways. And would never send my kids to the immorality of private school etc. I dont like the middle class idea of social pretension, mowing lawns and all that shit. But a lot of my friends are middle class in some way. The upper class, cousin marrying, privileged halfwits nonsense absolutely makes my skin crawl.

A class "system" isn't a system at all. Its a form of corruption. Its also pretty cowardly. People are hoping to tag onto others rather than thro their own hard work or ability.

Anyone who tries to look down on others needs to get a grip of themselves IMO. Its always an attempt to deflect attention from their own inherent lack of worth. And only really deceives halfwits. Social climbers invariably get caught out at some point and wind up giving themselves a pretty karmic load of shit eventually. Heather Mills would be a good example of that. Infact she was probably one of the luckier ones.

A class structure is just a disease. I sort of see myself as outside of it. I'd like to see it die.

Then I'm lower class by this definition. I think the government would consider me "middle". :(

Roofer here. Ipso- fuckin'-facto= low class. My people had money. Dad=banker. Mom=restaurant owner. La-de-da. When I worked is south Florida, those cocksuckers from Connecticut(BIG MONEY) and some of the other New Ingland states tried to fuck me every chance they got. They did not succeed. Fuck a bunch 'a class. In real life, I'm actually able to talk to anyone, rich or otherwise and on an equal basis. IMO, you have the capacity to sort out those for whom acting like a big shot prick is standard procedure and those who are genuine. Now from what I understand of class in a place such as, for example-India--that's a whole differant deal.

It was interesting to read this horrible class discrimination based "toff" newspaper in Britain. Basically they hate anyone who didn't go to Eton, but always pretend to be the "champion of the middle class".

Strangely they were saying that they agreed with Marx on one key pt. Marx claimed that the middle class/ petty bourgeoisie would pretty much disappear, as the Capitalist system developed. In some ways, that is happening today, as things internationalise and corporatise. You certainly see it with young people coming out of college, having to compete with the 3rd world, or winding up in McJobs. I mean even well qualified lawyers are having their work go towards lower paid agency type stuff.
