Really? Are you sure about that? That's funny because I've seen you, for instance, post things that may imply otherwise. For instance: How about the thread you put up - http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?p=7706381#post7706381 - where you said: Or, there was another thread where someone said beauty was subjective. To which you replied: So, judging by various posts that you've made in regards to the whole obesity issue, you DO come across as having a negative view toward people who are not even hugely overweight. In fact, you've said that they are "worse". And then there's the Pierre Bourdieu thing you mentioned. Upon skimming through what this French person was suggesting, I couldn't help but think it was guys like him who fed the stereotyping tendencies. And judging based on how you seem to support such a theory and what you've so far come across where the topics of body weight are concerned, I think you ARE being prejudiced against people who are overweight. I mean, you seem to ALWAYS come back to this: the negative view on overweight people. Why is that? And you still say you're only stating your quote-unquote "health reasons"? Sorry, but I think you're just being hypocritical. For example, I am concerned about their health. Yes, there can be joint issues, cardiovascular issues, and whatnot. But you don't necessarily have to be super fit to lead a healthy lifestyle. You can be a little bit chubby, and still live a healthy life. And just in case you attempt to counter that by saying "a little bit chubby and obese are different", well, remember what you said. I already quoted you. You said that those who are NOT morbidly obese are even worse, followed by your own reasons, always adding something to the effect of "they smell". You can try to defend yourself by saying you're stating health concerns, but your attitude toward overweight people shows through your posts as a whole. I for one believe that beauty DOES come in all shapes and sizes. I also believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find Queen Latifah beautiful, and I find Audrey Hepburn beautiful. One is a plus-sized lady, and the other was a slim lady. But they are both beautiful in my opinion. The point is, the fact that someone like Queen Latifah is regarded by many as beautiful suggests that someone can be above the average body weight and still be sexy.
Thin is in. Some men go for chubbies. Most don't. Some women go for chubbies with money ; most don't. The quoted postee , Mr. Wentz , seems to be spot on. Don't hate ; Grab a plate.
It is an interesting subject for sure , you do your homework and you read the details of what Mr Wenz said. Two issues and i will be pragmatic , *beauty does come in all shapes and sizes. Being of a particular size does not ensure or determine beauty , beauty is more complex. To be thin to find being oneself beautiful may not work not plumb either. *And then there's the Pierre Bourdieu thing . I studied Bourdieu myself and his writings/research are controversial but accepted as being forward thinking in the sociology community around the world and have led to some challenging thought. It is a simple as the determinist vs free-will argument? Bourdieu also discusses beauty at length and it's roots both in what is related to the natural world, our culture and refined thought. Da Vinci and others formulated this and there are direct parallels with the natural world and mathamatics. *The dominant paradigm in body shape is BBW or obese . As to whether this influences the classical notion of beauty is very much up for grabs. In all likely-hood it is just a blip in human history. *Obesity health issues that Mr Wentz mentioned seemed to offend some people but those problems are well documented.
That's what is pissing me off the most about this guy. He's not just stating facts. He's making generalizations and every time there is a thread about overweight people, sure enough, there he is with his derogatory comments. He seems to have almost a vendetta against fat people. I mean it's one thing to be concerned but honestly, OTHER people being fat shouldn't affect him so much that every one of his posts is about how fat people are the scourge of the earth. Paul, seriously. Get over yourself. You're not smarter than anyone else. You're an asshole. Did an overweight woman break your heart and now you're obsessed with insulting everyone who has a couple extra pounds on them? If you're 500 lbs+, sure life would be difficult. But 20-30 lbs overweight? I have no problem with any of the things you mentioned. You're lucky if you can get a woman at all with your attitude and prejudice. Post a picture of yourself and let's see if you can measure up to your godly standards. Are you thin and handsome? If not, come off it already.
Yes I find women with a little extra weight and curves on them very sexy! Skinny model types not so much.
Yes, that seems to be the trend today. Well, it started being the trend probably around the 60's and onward, seeing as how models like Twiggy started to become very popular. And since then, the modelling industry seems all about super skinny. But that has nothing to do with living healthy. In fact, most fashion models are underweight. There are documentary films/programs that talk about this aspect of the industry. By today's societal standards, "healthy" means, what, reasonably thin, lean, fit, toned, athletic.....? But where's "kinda chubby but otherwise totally healthy"? There are so many people with a little bit of extra padding but still perfectly healthy. But because they have the extra padding, society simply won't acknowledge them as "healthy"? Even though they ARE? That's kind of stupid, isn't it? It's like those really skinny but healthy people who get branded "anorexic" even though they AREN'T. How is that fair? Most don't because they DO NOT judge people based solely on the body fat percentage. Spot on? Please explain to me how he is spot on. I'm not the one who's doing the hating. I'm acknowledging beauty in various body shapes. Paulwenz, however, appears to have an issue toward those with extra padding on their bodies. He says they "tend to stink", "can't wipe their arse" and other degrading things toward overweight people. So, who's doin' the hatin'?
Mr. Wentz simply told you folks the truth. "You can't handle the truth". Tons of big women are hatin on hawt petite talented women. This would never happen between a big and lean guy. Never. Pissed off BBW's are as common as horsecrap at a racetrack.
And tons of "hawt petite talented women" are "hatin" on "big" women, regardless of whether those women are actually big or just bigger. That brush paints both ways.
Incorrect , Sig. Hawt tiny women are too busy having GREAT sex. Seems like BBW's are terminally irate these days. Could it be airplane seating arrangements? It really wasn't that hot of a summer.
I think people (especially most women) hate on whatever is different from them as a way to boost their self esteem. I appreciate good looking people, but I'm more attracted to a solid personality. I'm perfectly secure in my appearance, so I don't feel the need to judge others.
You're not answering my question. Paulwenz simply implied that he had issues with overweight women. I mean, what "truth"? He wasn't even all that accurate about overweight people to begin with. His general outlook is that overweight people are "smelly" and "unsexy". He can try to sound like he's concerned about their health, but come on, if he was then he wouldn't be using those word choices. ESPECIALLY if he was also going on about people's intelligence and whatnot like he was when he brought up that Bourdieu thing. Wow, holy generalization/stereotyping much? o___O And you're doing the SAME thing Paulwenz is doing. You're being totally biased about the whole thing. You're pro-thin and anti-chubby. You're only coming from ONE side. In your words, you said "big women are hatin" and that "pissed off BBW's are as common as horsecrap at a racetrack" while hailing thin women as "hawt petite talented". "TALENTED"?? Since when does talent have anything to do with body weight? Luciano Pavarotti: big guy who was AMAZING at singing. Audrey Hepburn: skinny actress who had a HUGE presence on-screen. Gold medalists in heavyweight judo have been known to have a lot of body fat percentage. Gold medalists in long distance marathon have been known to have VERY low body fat percentage. Aretha Franklin: large lady who is an R&B legend. Michael Romeo: a guitar virtuoso in the band Symphony-X, a big guy but he is amazing at what he does. Paul Gilbert: another extremely talented guitarist but this one a skinny, boney dude. The list goes on. And don't forget, hating goes both ways. There's a reason why those "hawt petite talented" women feel like they are being hated on by overweight people; because overweight people feel like they are hated on by society, and people like YOU. when you think about it that way, though, you'd see that overweight people are simply retaliating rather than initiating. Even then, not all overweight people actually HATE on thin people. Plus, there are also tonnes of pissed "hawt petite talented" women as well. "As common as horsecrap at a racetrack".
Mr Wentz is accused of making generalizations? As well you say he id degrading towards fat people, frankly i don't see any personal remarks but i do see some from those who reply towards him. It is an interesting paradigm sort of like moral relativism, we live in a society that is statistically overweight , however this does not alter the facts since they are related to the laws of physics . The medical issues are reflected in the health system, certain things that Wentz are true , the higher proportion of people having joint ,knee/hip replacement are overweight and the replacements are due to overloading of the joints. He also mentions falls, poor circulation, the do occur in middle aged and older people for sure, the sleep problems are a fact. Originally Posted by Paulwenz "i am telling you what i see everyday working in a hospital, and these are not morbidly obese people, they are worse still. Some plain facts!" Some people miss the point very clearly, The Lancet, Surgeon General and health department all have articles on the net about concerns of the obesity problem. Obviously some posters here are better informed than these authorities?
