-The effects gained from meditation continue to affect brain function for a long time after meditation is over, according to new research. -Before beginning the study, the researchers hypothesized that meditation assists in controlling emotional responses, even in a non-meditative state. -During meditation, the area of the brain that contains the amygdala showed decreased activity. The amygdala is a mass of gray matter inside of each cerebral hemisphere that is involved with the experiencing of emotions. -When the subjects were shown images of other people that were good, bad, or neutral for a mindfulness technique known as “compassion meditation,” the amygdala was extraordinarily responsive. -The participants were able to focus their attention and significantly reduce their emotional reactions. The study found that they were able to retain this ability for eight weeks after the testing concluded. The subjects demonstrated subdued emotional response and increased compassion for others when faced with disturbing images, even when they were no longer in the meditative state. -“Mindfulness meditation has been reported to enhance numerous mental abilities, including rapid memory recall,” said Catherine Kerr of the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging and the Osher Research Center, both at Harvard Medical School. -Both studies used participants that did not have prior experience with meditation. Over the course of a two-month period and a three-month period, both groups showed significant change in their daily normal brain function. -This research supports a belief held by some researchers – that meditation may help reduce dependency on pharmaceutical drugs. man, that's a bit harsh. yes, probably most people who frequent this forum already believe in the power of meditation. doesn't hurt to read about some medical research that supports its merit though also, there may be some folks who don't meditate now who will happen to see this thread. maybe it will be the thing that gets them to meditate :sunny:
Yeah I dug through that stuff, can't find a link to the research. Not that I'm trying to dis-credit, just interested in seeing the actual study.
dude chill first of all i'm not selling anything and even if i were you don't need to buy it it's that simple. peace :sunny:
I'm questioning your motivation for posting. What do you derive from it? Nevermind, I just saw your age, and decided I am impressed that you have a clue so young. Sorry. If you take a second and peruse this section of Hipforums you'll find that just about everyone who comes here to preach meditation is selling their own goods or website. But you meditate at 16, that's a meaningful life decision and will help you remain healthy and allow you to regain mental balance throughout your entire life. If I hadn't learned to, and meditated since I was 15 I would have died.
thanks, well I have never read posts from this sub forum so I didn't knew. Off topic: Anyway I have found that balance is the key so you must do everything a little.
And Chodpa, this is a very transient and segmented site. If people try to drum up business here, it's probably not happening. You need people to develop relationships with and become a really trusted source of info over time to really sell anything here. If it's mostly new people coming and going in these particular categories, don't worry about commercial interests.
