I have two friends who are litter bugs. They say they aren't, but it's blatantly obvious that they are. They throw food wrappers, juice cartons, soda can, and other trash out the window all the time when they are driving. Apparently, they do it even more when I am not around because I have a knack for getting on to them about it. They justify it by saying if they didn't litter then their car would be a mess, and even if they threw it in a garbage can it would end up in a landfill anyway. My response is "unfortunately there has to be a place to put all the garbage, but that does not mean the sides of the road should look like a dump too." They are cool people! I just wish they'd understand. Okay, just wanted to rant! Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas!
I don't like litter bugs either Alot of people do their best not to litter but then litter the streets with their cig butts.....I know I was so guilty of that too....but I make a conceous (sp?) effort not to do that anymore. On a brighter note....some girl on hillsboro beach (south florida) was doing beach cleanup with a group and she found a brick of pot.....damn, why couldnt that have been me! I used to do beach cleanup on hillsboro beach every year.......
i dont litter in any natual setting, like the forest of beach, or mountains ect...but i litter in cities as offten as possible. heres my logic...that garbage has to go somewhere, if not teh road then a landfill where it will be forgotten. though, when it lines our communities people take notice, its infront of their eyes. we do have a problem with waste, and i think the more who notice it in their communities, the more likely some will get tired of it and do their part in not being so damned wasteful. landfills are an easy place to throw anything and forget about it...you can forget it all you want, but that garbage still remains, and our landfills are getting fuller and fuller everyday.
Yes, the landfills are getting fuller and fuller everyday, unfortunately. And these days, it's hard to recycle because recyling centers are few and far between, but that does not mean the whole world needs to be your garbage can. Do you just throw trash on your living room floor or do you throw it in the garbage can? Kind of the same concept there, buddy.
According to statistics the average American generates Americans' total yearly waste would fill a convoy of garbage trucks long enough to wrap around the Earth six times and reach halfway to the moon. Since 1950, people in the United States have used more resources than any generation who ever lived before them. Each American individual uses up 20 tons of basic raw materials annually At the consumption level of the average American, at least four additional planets worth of resources would be needed to support the planet’s six billion inhabitant. In a study done in 1996, Americans, who make up only five percent of the world's population, used nearly a third of its resources and produced almost half of its hazardous waste. By comparison, the average North American consumes ten times as much as the acaerage person living in China and thirty times as much as the average person living in India something to think about. Down with litterbugs!
some states have a number to call to report litterers. A nice, expensive ticket could break the habit. Get then a nice in-car trash bag...look in the auto section of the discount store.
not to sound like a total bitch, but that's really stupid. there are a lot more constructive ways to manage garbage than to throw it in the street to supposedly "get attention." maybe you'd like to breed a few rats to spread the plague while you're at it? have you heard of hygiene? disease control?
My house is on the corner of a busy street and a cut-through street. I pick up a trash bag full of beer cans, bottles, fast food packages, etc. every week just out of my yard!! Once, I found a cereal box. One day I was in the back yard and saw a hospital transport bus pull along my yard and throw her styrofoam cup out of the bus into my yard. I was pissed. I chased after it yelling, but of course she didn't stop. I got her bus number and reported to her boss. p.s. my county has a litterbug hotline, but a woman I work with tried to report someone once, had the tag number of the car, but they said they couldn't really do anything because it was her word against theirs!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Litterbugs suck ass big time. From flicking those damn cigarettes out the window (don't you have a fuckin' ashtray???) to dumping full on unwanted stuff out the window w/o a backwards glance. I wanna stomp on their feet they make me so mad. I do not litter myself (won't even spit on the ground as its disrepectful to the Earth)but in my house mom and I make a real effort to sort the trash from recycables. I need to make a composting bin so the food stuff doesn't head that way either. Nor do I want it in our septic tank. The brother however is wasteful which is very irritating. not a litter bug but wasteful nonetheless.
rawr!! litterbugs SUCK!! i went to schwagstock last summer, and i spent a LOT of time handing out trash bags to people, even if they werent littering, just so they would have somewhere to put their waste... i must have handed out at least 7 boxes of trashbags!
That's a very selfish attitude. A lot of people live in the city who are already doing a lot of recycling and trying to keep their community relatively clean, but they also have to step on your garbage and look at it... There has to be a better way to take action -cleanup projects, put up posters (yes, people have to look at them too but it's still different from real garbage) and if you absolutely feel you have to take more aggressive action, then go through the trouble to find some person or company that is wasteful and dump it on their doorstep... but this random way, you're going to catch a lot of the wrong people along with those you're trying to reach.
