He is my favorite writer. We are studying him in English class and the teacher is always talking about how crazy he was. I think he was definently a little disturbed but, I think the main reason he could write like a crazy person is he was extremely intelligent and could get into the mind of a psycho. Also, I think his poetry is overrated and his stories with such great poetic writing were his real masterpieces. Please post your opinions.
he was deeply depressed over some of the things he had faced in life, yet his dark writings show signs of his darkened humor (if you are able to understand him enough and see the humor past the darkness).
I read "The Black Cat" and it made me cry because it hit so close to home. He's a wonderful writer, and he knows how to really tap at your senses with his work.
"my perverseness, i say, came to my final overthrow." poe's the black cat and then there is the tell tale heart
i agree that his stories were where i found all his true unnatural writing abilities, not in his poems
I agree that his talents were best displayed in the short story. His use of color in The Mask of the Red Death really spoke to me. The Cask of Amontillado and The Purloined Letter are also faves of mine.
i think his best story was The Fall of the House of Usher. that story was great and there are so many possible explanations for what goes on in the story..u just kinda have to decide for yourself what you want to believe Hop-Frog and the Cask of Amontillado are good too
