I'm a seasoned barefooter and not one to even usually think about shoes. However I've been doing a lot of serious hiking recently over terrain not exactly intended for humans! A fellow barefooter and friend on mine recommended an off the peg solution to help protect my feet enough to be comfortable over the serious stuff and light enough to stuff in my pocket once I wish to take them off, he's a barefoot runner as well and uses these for running: http://www.dancewear365.com/shoes/lyrical/capezio-sandasol-lyrical-shoe/ They also pass very well in places not usually barefoot friendly. They look really smart on and just like a conventional sandal from the top. They are comfortable and pretty hard wearing. I've worn them over various stuff and have yet to suffer and tear, snag or other problem. A bit of info I picked up on the way that may be interesting to someone. Shayla x
I put one of these on my foot when I need to go into unfriendly territory and find them terrific! Like you I fold it up and keep it in my pocket in case I need it. It really only protects the ball of your foot so your toes and heel are in contact with the ground for at least a partial barefoot experience. I have never been refused entry to any place I have tried when wearing one of these on my foot. I highly recommend them.
....normal barefoot sandals are pointless enough, why would I take something pointless and make it.... pointless?
Little late, but wanted to comment because I have a pair of these and are great to keep in my cargo shorts. They can really save the day. I forgot them on my pants so got washed.
