I am not a hippie to be exact, and I live in southeast Asia. Today my elementary old friend went to go with me in mall, and since in elementary school I rarely went barefoot (in fact, never) I decided to show him my new habbit (well it's already 2 years now).

I went to mall in shorts, cheap-fake-old-crocs and a T-shirt. He wore long jeans and sport shoes. So I told him my new habbit to go barefoot and he didn't believe it, so we went inside the elevator and I took off my sandals there, and left the elevator with my friend while my sandals were left inside. The elevator closed and my friends were confused. He realized I didn't bring any extra footwear so, yeah, he was really amazed.

We walked around the mall in bare foot. Then an idea popped up. We went to the shoe store and I tried a few shoes but left the shop buying no footwear so the shop keeper was like wtf dude.

We went outside the mall and I walked on the hot asphalt in bare foot. We crossed the road and we went to a supermarket nearby. Before entering, we wandered in the parking lot, making my feet even dirtier. My friends asked if it hurts. And I must be honest it hurts a bit.

After wanderi in the supermarket we went out and walked to the bus stop and we parted ways, I went home.

He was so amazed and confused at the same time. Gonna post the picture of my dirty soles soon!

Hey. since nobody commented, I'm commenting from the future, its theyear 2013.

Sounds like a good experience for your friend. Hopefully he or she got inspired and now you're sharing adventures.

Here in Texas is getting so annoyingly hot that's impossible to get out of the car and walk barefoot in the scorching pavement.
