I went on a quick mushroom hunt in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada (30 minutes form Calgary).

Mushrooms are not fully starting to grow until 2 weeks later so there wasn't much to pick. I'm completely new to mushrooms and everything about them really. So I found these and took pictures of them, if someone could help me ID them that would be great. (I'm looking for psychoactive mushrooms).

Here are what strains are apparently growing in Alberta and contain psilocybin:
"Amanita muscaria (Ammirati et al., 1985)
    Conocybe kuehneriana (Schalwijk-Barendsen)
    Gymnopilus luteofolius (Schalwijk-Barendsen)
    Gymnopilus sapineus (Schalwijk-Barendsen)
    Gymnopilus spectabilis (Schalwijk-Barendsen)
    Panaeolus subbalteatus (Schalwijk-Barendsen)."

This could be wrong however, I've never heard of muscaria growing in Alberta.

Here is all of them together:

    ^^^Mistake number one...could cost you your life.
    Amanitas do not contain Psilocybin

Amanitas grow in fucking Siberia, no reason you couldn't find 'em in Alberta

Oh I knew that, I just copy pasted it from an older thread and didn't delete it. I've found them in Ukraine and Russia, Not that I would want to eat them.

It's not always easy to tell from a picture, but those mushrooms do not look remotely hallucinogenic.

Those do not look hallucinogenic. But I'm not a mycologist. Neither are you. Neither is anyone in this thread. In fact, even if there were a mycologist in this thread, he would tell you "I'm sorry, I can't help you over the internet. Also, many people die or get very sick doing what you are trying to do".

Don't pick wild shrooms man, this is a very detailed science and one mistake can mean a slow agonizing death.

You haven't included any other identifying features. A dangerous game of Russian roulette when you don't have spore prints and field knowledge. Also, you could probably find certain species of Fly mushrooms, but I wouldn't be confident in eating them, even after they've been cooked! Also, did you freakin come to the forum just to ask that??!!

Actually experienced mycologists can identify most mushrooms by appearance and info of where it grew, on what. Not all of course as there are species we haven't discovered. But get on shroomery and see the identification rate there, it is actually pretty astounding and goes against what we've been taught.

Anyways those mushrooms are absolutely not hallucinogenic and very likely poisonous. White-gilled mushrooms with tan caps typically are poisonous or nonedible.

We have at least a few people die every year in my area from consuming Death Caps.

They are usually immigrants from Laos and I guess there is a delicious edible in Laos that looks just like a Death Cap. they come here and think they there are the same mushroom and they are dead in three days.

amanita toxins kil the liver and you won't start to feel sick for several days and not until you already have the liver of a 90 year old alcoholic / paint huffer. By the time you get medical care you are already the waking dead....nothing short of an immediate liver transplant will save you. It only takes one.

Anyone that tells you they can identify almost any mushroom by sight and habitat is a lying jackass and not your friend..... Will probably get you killed.

Even trained mycologist take spore prints and use other features like gill type, spore shape...ect to be 100% sure.

Now there are alot of mushrooms that you can tell by looking at them in a picture because they are one of a kind but there are thousands you can't.

^ You are correct. Death caps are the most toxic of mushrooms. There have been some survivors, but the majority that can't be said for.

Make sure you are 100% sure you are eating what you think you're eating. When it doubt toss it out. This goes for store-bought wild-picked mushrooms too, which have on occasion been misidentified.

You gotta realize a lot of mushroom hunters go based on what they're taught rather than science. Take a dichotemus key or whatever it's called and you can positively ID what you have picked based on professional mycology.

A majority of store-bought mushrooms are cultivated though. like chanterelles and oysters. but this is not always the case

absolutely, the spore print, measurements, and habitat are the 3 most important factors along with the visual aspect.

But check out the Shroomery ID forum. a majority do get ID'ed correctly. this is because they're looking for SPECIFIC types of mushrooms so they know the difference between lookalikes and such. you need more than a picture if you want accuracy, for sure.

someone picking random mushrooms like OP without knowing what to look for won't have the same results as someone specifically looking for panaeolus subbalteatus in horse manure for example, where less than a dozen different species grow in horse poo

One of these is a deadly poisonous galerina..... One is a delicious edible honey mushroom

Both grow on wood and I have found both growing together on the same log. Only a suicidal fool would bet his life on just going on looks alone.

But one has a white spore print and one has a rust colored spore print
