Someone made a post about them in the Music forum, but I wanted to post about them in here as well. I think this band from the UK, which some are calling "the new Radiohead" (which I think is nonsense as these guys are way better), is one of the best "new" bands at the moment. Their music combines a very organic sound with some sparse electronic textures to create what is sometimes referred to as folktronica (I consider it simply to be art pop). What I like about these guys most is just how fluid they sound, and how the instruments just seem to weave in and out of one another to create this somewhat layered, free-flowing and chilled out sound. Also outstanding are their vocal harmonies. The vocal aspect of the band is what seems to draw the most criticism of all from some, as the lead singer sings in a somewhat nasally, kind of high-pitched voice. I, however, think he is an excellent singer and very unique compared to a lot of the vocalists I hear today. Their debut album, An Awesome Wave, came out last year, and, to be honest, I have never seen so many polarized reviews as this album has received. It seems people either love them or hate them. I tend to think they're great. I don't think they're the greatest, but they're one of the better bands at the moment, and their sound is quite unique. Check out some of their tunes and tell me what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3fTw_D3l10"]Alt-J (∆) - Taro - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYqrm9OLvpQ"]Alt-J ∆ - Something Good - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrTDDQPzXac"]Alt-J - Dissolve Me - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpdGqWB8QJc"]alt-J - MS - YouTube
I like them. I don't want to be part of their success - I don't like them enough for that. I hope they have enough of a following to move frwd. If they fail - I'm sure they will do well in the city. From England - you are welcome Two of the videos do not work in my country.
Yeah. I heard them on 'later': http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0104wh2 I kinda heard them in the background because they were used for BBC idents. My 'cool' friends from London posted a few of their tracks on Facebook from time to time. I did not seek them out myself.
