Large bird takes down an air force F16

It felt like you were saying it doesn't happen. I wouldn't like to try and figure out how many flights there are on a daily basis - but the bird issue seems to be a big enough risk for the industry to put a lot of time/effort and money into restricting how much damage birds may cause.

Bit stupid really. China and Russia spend 20 bn on stealth fighter programmes. All they needed was some old duffer with a box of pigeons...

 

I have scene where they will use birds of prey , falcon , eagle . ect. to clear out birds from an air port . I also found a you tube video using a dog . People will use these fake owls to keep pigions from pooping on there roof , but after a while the pigions figure out its just a fake owl .

ya, absolutely action is taken to minimize the threat, it really depends on who what and where.

finally, here's the vid i was looking for... lol

this is the best ever vid of a commercial airliner sucking a bird on takeoff. it also illustrates exactly what a compressor stall looks like. this one sustained just the right type of damage to sort of keep running, but instead of continuous combustion the airflow thru the engine keeps stalling/lighting/stalling/lighting.

ya so really, birds aren't a big deal for airplanes :rofl:

btw, speaking of SR's and Luke AFB and stuff, here's another fave of mine, the A-10 there is (was?) a squadron at Davis Mothan and got to watch them practice a few times.
