Cannot state I ever listened to them, unless it was a song of theirs I heard unintentionally somewhere without realizing it was them.
ok, i live where jim morrison grew up. seriously!!! he grew up here. THAT BEING SAID they are waaaay overrated. and jim was a douchebag n a half. listen to some grateful dead, or rhcp if you want a real band...
They were doing something no one else at the time were doing. I always loved their sound. Morrison was gonna be Morrison, not much could be done about that. Brilliant poet and a tortured soul...
yes,, but if you are going to think that tyrson,, yes jim was before this dude, but this dude walked miles around jim morrison lane staley!!! alice n chains>>>>>>the doors
The doors excite feelings of rebellion in members from all generations. Jim was a pioneer in the way he performed on stage, and the Doors themselves left a huge mark on Rock and Roll History. I wouldn't say they're the best band in the world but they are in a list of my top favorites. They'll always have a special place in my heart.
Morrison was an intellectual with a Fine Arts degree in Film, who read extensively about the Beats, poetry, and philosophy. Ray Manzarek had a degree in Economics and Film. John Densmore studied Ethnic Jazz under Fred Katz and Transcendental Meditation with Robby Krieger and attended CSUN. Robby was a flamenco guitar player who attended UCLA. Together they staged rehearsed theatrical live shows mixed with musical and vocal improvisation. Each member contributed to most songs and none are attributed to one individual, I don't believe. They fused rock and roll, jazz, flamenco, and blues into their own form of psychedelic rock which ranged from the subtle to the outrageous. Forming in 1966 and lasting only 6 years, they remain one of the most influential rock groups of all time selling more than 32 million albums in the U.S. alone.
The Doors are amazing in that they have a sound that pierces into the psyche, hypnotic and often dark in an Liberated Hedonistic tone which separated them from a lot of the psychedelic pop/rock at the time, yet their sound was also refined, soulful, and was able to reconcile some of their free form sounding jams/poetry bridges with more traditional song structure which separated them from a lot of the garage and experimental music. Very unique, wonderful group.
well i don't think being sent from your phone using tapatalk really qualifies a band as "best ever," although the fact that they apparently did this way back in the '60s does prove that they were WAY ahead of their time.

You know the day destroys the night Night divides the day Tried to run Tried to hide Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side, yeah We chased our pleasures here Dug our treasures there But can you still recall The time we cried Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side Yeah! C'mon, yeah Everybody loves my baby Everybody loves my baby She get She get She get She get high I found an island in your arms Country in your eyes Arms that chain us Eyes that lie Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side Break on through, oww! Oh, yeah! Made the scene Week to week Day to day Hour to hour The gate is straight Deep and wide Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side Break on through Break on through Break on through Break on through Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
They are one of the best to me. Why? Because I really really dig their sound on a lot of songs. It's that simple. I don't care that their vocalist might have been a dick. I thought this was about the doors (thus: music). That's crazy. Haha, nuts! :sultan:
Exactly their music is so unique but many people just concentrate on their lyrics. People seem to forget that they really were at the forefront of the changing of music...stage behaviour etc I guess they are a bit obscure for many. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
