Punishing Americans for blowing the whistle on the corruption that is taking place in America only serves to make America look more like the terrorists most people are beginning to realize it is.

The man seeking asylum is an agent himself.

Nobody seems to care that he signed a non disclosure agreement before he was exposed to classified data, meant to keep this nation safe! America does have a lot of problems, we all need to work on making it better, but it's still the greatest Nation. If you disagree, then go live in Cuba!:)

He clearly broke the law. Unless I see evidence to the contrary, however, I can't help but think that what he did was fundamentally a patriotic act. That is, I think he did what he did to protect the freedom and the welfare of the American people.

While spying on every citizen might prevent terror in the short term, in the long term, it makes things much worse. The tighter the lid is held down on terror, the more our government continues with ass-backwards policies that motivate terror in the first place.

We haven't always been surrounded by such a high threat of terror attacks. We are caught in a cycle of ass-backwards polices, leading to terror, leading to an erosion of civil liberties in the name of suppressing terror, leading to more ass-backwards policies, and so on.

As much as I would have liked to have given the subject a rest for the 4th, I think a response to this is needed.

I have little patience for the "love it or leave it" attitude, or the "America is the greatest" attitude.

America may have once had a claim to being "the greatest nation", but no longer. We are not the most free. We are not the most democratic. We are not the happiest country. We are not the most ethical or a moral leader.

America does not exist as a nation. America is composed of scattered islands of community and various identity groups, largely at war with one another. It is ruled primarily (but not exclusively) by monied special interest groups.

America seems to be, for the time being at least, the wealthiest and most powerful country. That's not the same thing as being "the greatest" from my perspective.

Yes, America may be better than, lets say, North Korea, but I don't think that's cause for any chest thumping. The "love it or leave it" attitude isn't going to help us make anything better.

The resistance in nazi Germany broke the law by smuggling Jews across the border.

it is a mistake to confuse legality with morality.

We both better hope that America is better then North Korea, because neither of are posts would be allowed. Freedom of speech is what allows us to complain about what others say, even though they have the same right to say it, as we do to complain about it .If we were so concerned about our privacy, there wouldn't be so many private moments posted on facebook, I think what upsets most people about being spied on, is they are being there true self because they don't know there being watched. The only way to find out if somebody is planning an act of terror, or they would just plan it on myspace:2thumbsup:

I noticed most of the support this Traitor is getting, comes from people living outside the U.S. Maybe when somebody blows up your friends or family with an act of terror, you will be willing to lose some of your right to privacy, to keep it from happing again! They didn't attack our Government, they attacked our Brothers and sisters, like my friends, who died in the second Tower! Maybe I am to close to this to be ok with what Snowden has done. Treason is Treason! :(

The guy told us information we basically already knew. I feel bad for him, but at the same time I know he's going to be jumping around a lot and probably won't see the inside of a prison cell for quite some time.
