Why do people use another symbol for the 'u' in 'fuck'?

Like f*ck. Does that make the nastiness of the word go away and makes everything right?

i think it makes it more vulgar and loud appearing.

why is this really a tough question? fucking look at it and you can tell for yourself.

 

I sometimes spell fvck, kvnt, etc, as a nod to the silly black metal way of spelling cult kvlt

 

Maybe those who don't use the word in real life have difficulty even writing it. Me I fuck and **** with the best of them so I find the symbol thing in place of the u hilarious. It's only a word for f*ck sake!

 

I thought there were a lot of boards/forums on the web where you could not use the word. Lots of people just got used to changing it so they could stay on the board.

 

I think people who don't want to use certain words, use others instead.

I agree with Spectacles on this one.

It's just a form of self-censure that would hopefully prevent the official censors/moderators from censoring or banning you.

 

reminds me of how some of us Irish say Feck instead of fuck, and "jaysus" instead of jesus..
because "you shall not take the lords name in vain" so back in the hay day everyone was really religious.. and "feck" just a way of getting around actually cursing

 

We have a whole bunch of such words too. Parents usually use them around their children instead of the real swear words.

I just type the word. If fuck is too strong to use, I will just use another expletive. There are so many to choose from.

 

Probably for the same reason some people use G-d instead of God.

 

'cuz god is always listening for those dirty little words ,but if you change one letter,she doesn't know what it means. Hope the f#ck she never finds out.

yeah, pretty sure this is the actual answer. several times i've seen the censored version and have told the poster that they can say fuck here, and they usually respond with something along the lines of "fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck."
