Anyone drink this stuff? I like to drink it while fasting and as an alternative to coffee. It provides nice clean energy. It's also rich in antioxidants, enhances focus, aids digestion, and helps to control weight. Good shit.

Yerba Mate doesn't really have a crash. I love it and keep saying I'll buy the loose leaf yerba mate, a gourd and bombilla; I'll walk around pretending to live in Los Andes.

Years ago my mom came back from a trip to the remote mountains in Guatemala and Argentina talking about yerba mate pretty much non stop. She brought us all these ... special cup things that you put the leaves in with a special spoon type thing with little holes in it to stir.. (im sure it has a name but I have no clue what)... neway I still have that. She also told funny stories about how they would all (the locals) carry those things around w yerba mate in them all day and pass them around and she started doing the same thing when a bunch of family was over. if you ever met my mom you'd kinda see why it was all kinda funny and we were all comparing it to her passing around a j or something...

but in any case, yea, yerba mate is healthy n food and I like to have it sometimes.

Yes, that's exactly the same thing. My friend Gaby from Argentina would have his mom mail him Yerba Mate to Santo Domingo and one day I was at his house and I was fascinated with the ritual of the preparation and the sharing of the gourd. His was way bitter than I've ever had here, a lot stronger too, but it was great. I miss him, he was a true bohemian and very talented painter. I don't even know where he's living now, maybe Costa Rica.

Yeah, my mom was explaining the whole ritual of it and what's it like there.. I think she did find it fascinating. And she had brought home some of it from there n it was a lot stronger than anything I've had since then. Since then what I've gotten around here has reminded me more of tea, but it's still good.

A friend went to Bolivia and brought back some coca leaves, we just chewed them. It made my mouth numb. I thought it was nice. I wonder if I could chew some at my desk at work, it definitely makes me less jittery than coffee. It's not like I'm snorting a line of coke.

Lol that's like the first time I rolled, I kept saying that. Or proclaiming either a) it was my favorite drug, or b) that I love everyone :2thumbsup:

It's way more mellow, and down there has been a part of their culture for so long. I wish I could chew coca at work too.

The first time I really caught a real (good) roll I ended up looking at my friend's eyes and seeing stars come out of them and i'd just grin at them n tell them that. and they'd hug me and be like "haha you're rolling hard"...ended up on a picnic table (outdoor party at ski resort) just looking up at the saying how beautiful it was... and walking around and smiling and talking to everyone. picture like the most happy rolling person you've ever seen... I was in some kind of heaven and everyone was there w me. lol. I would have hated to see myself later... I always thought it woulda been funny if some of the times when rolling really hard out at a party w ppl if you had it on videotape to watch later. could be very interesting.

I really like Yerba Mate. I get the tea in the same box that you posted, PR, but like other people have said the loose leaf is generally much better, I just don't want to go through the effort of ordering.

I also had a gourd/bombilla but the first time I tried to use it I was at a friends house, and he stirred it which made the leaves get in my mouth through the bombilla. It wasn't until later on that I realized that stirring totally changes it, but I had already thrown away the gourd thinking it was useless. Stupid friend/me. I need to get another one.

Had some really great peppermint mate at a local cafe.

My dad tried it and asked "What is this stuff? Is this a drug?" hah

Mate has this really specific bitter taste, I love it. My bf hated it though. We got to know it from our Argentinian friends and they really took their time with the whole ritual :).
They always had a thermos of hot water with them, so they could make their mate whenever they wanted.

It's been more than a year since I last tasted it though :(.
