My wife and I once tried nudity up in the mountains near a lake when we were young. We had to cut our trip short because of the bad sunburns we suffered. Can't say I've ever felt compelled to do it again since then.
I was at a nudist beach once and all that happened was a sunburn on the upper back, nowhere else was affected. Strange.
I wish we were so lucky. My package was okay, but everything else was burned. It was a problem packing our camping gear when we started feeling the affects.
Yeah and I was on the beach for a few hours too. Perhaps my diet had some protective affect. Eat well, its good for the skin and for your inside.
You should see my face, I got sunburned while having a 10 day beard... Now it's half tanned half white.
Your experience wasn't the fault of being nude, it was the fault of not being properly prepared. You had sunscreen with you, didn't you? Or if you burn easily you can always just stay in the shade. Doesn't mean you can't be nude.
Being nakid in the mountains gets you sunburned three times faster, because you are closer to the sun. Especially in places like Colorado where the elevation is a mile above sea level, or more. At sea level you can lay out on the beach for an hour and get toasted, in Colorado you can get burned in 15 minutes.
Yes, it's true you will burn faster at higher elevations, but it's not because you're closer to the sun. It's because the air is much thinner and provides less protection from the UV.
I ended up with a pretty sore sunburn the first time I visited a nude beach. My solution was to take higher spf sunscreen the next time!
My solution would be this, spend less time at the beach. Id love to try a nude beach on a nice cool day like 15 C in winter.
Good advice. It was not that bad of a burn, but a little uncomfortable. I was someplace where the sun was much stronger than my home and it was such a wonderful, relaxing and liberating experience that I did not want to leave. Wonderful experience and I go every chance I get.
AMEN! . . . for the record the most painful sunburn I have ever had was on the back of my neck. It was one of those usually hot and clear early spring days and I was wearing work boots, t-shirt and jeans. It might have been a small area but it hurt like heck!
I think what threw us off was the cool breeze that had been gently blowing all day. We didn't feel the burn until we returned to camp.
Been there too! I try to avoid getting sunburns, but it does happen. It always sneaks up on me and I do not realize I am burnt until it is too late.
