just realised how soft my hair looks in these pictures...weird also i just figured out that i have had about 2 inches of growth in a year, that's a bizarre thought, they're damn slow but they must take after me and are being lazy at growing
They grow really slow at the start because they shrink. So while they're getting longer from the root all the hair in the original dread is getting tighter and shrinking up. Once the dreads reach maturity they stop shrinking and keep growing. Dreads grow slower than normal hair because the hair doesn't grow straight downwards, but once they've stopped shrinking they'll grow really fast in comparison to what you've gotten used to over the first year.
oh i know my hair was about 3/4 longer before i dreaded it haha. it was just cool to see evidence of actual growth
After debating whether to shave the side of my head again or leave it to dread, my decision was made by finding some mini rubber bands. i know everyone says to stay away from them but the hair was as knotless as a new born baby's hair (which my hair as never been) and was barely separating. so i braided the hair in the vague sections it was in and put the rubber bands in to make sure they don't fall out. once there's a bit of new growth I'll but 'em out of course but it seemed the best option. genuinely don't know how people start dreading their hair that short any other way!
Found an old picture, dreads are about 3 weeks old here? had a lot more fringe then though. Ready for spring! (this is my 'why is it snowing at the end of march?' face) From an angle I've never seen before...getting quite proud of my dreadies!! Thought i'd do a lil video for y'all. featuring one of my sausages (fudge)
I'd say my hair's properly maturing now, good way to measure is more compliments on my dreads instead of "are you getting dreads?" haha. and I've been knitting some dread-bands and dread-ties haha, as soon as my laptop's fixed I'll upload some pictures. happy dreading!
Yeah, I got a few. Guess I'll post some pics one of these days, I got some really strange loops ahah. Your hair seems awesomely messy, and the contrast between the dyed hair and the roots makes it even cooler.
Thank you the look was unintentional but i like it and I'm glad you're liking loops, took a while for me to get used to them and not try to combat them but i think they add character
