This reads like a public service announcement Rat. Just kidding though. I live in one of those areas that have a bunch of signs that point off the road to "fresh produce" This is the best time around here to get some good stuff. I never buy Watermelon from the grocery store.
Wow...there is no such thing around here. It's really sad actually. But really, the only things grown around here are wheat and cotton and all the ranchers are sell-outs and send all their meat to the big packing plants in the area (Tyson and Swift). I've never seen a fresh produce market and it really kind of makes me sad. Guess that's what happens when you live in the forgotten part of Texas.
there's little farmers markets and roadside produce stands all over the place. i'm not aware of a major one closer than an hour and a half away though.
Haha. Yeah, I used to live downtown and walked to the market all the time. Now I'm on the very outskirts of town, I can walk a block east and I'm walking past farmsteads. But I sometimes bike to the market on the fair grounds. They sell EVERYTHING fresh, and there's even a section for flash frozen produce for a much cheaper price than frozen veggies at the store. They sell meat, farmer's cheeses, breads, etc. I once got 5 homemade pizzas and a loaf of garlic bread for $15 before the market closed.
Atlanta State Farmers Market Forest Park, Georgia At 150 acres, our Atlanta Market is considered one of the largest of its kind in the world. It features a garden center, wholesale and retail activities, and is a major marketing hub and distribution point for fresh, locally grown produce in the Southeast and throughout the country. Open to the public Open 24 hours a day http://www.atlantaproducedealers.org/market_info.php
WHAT? A market open 24 hours? holy moly. And your seasons are way earlier than ours up here in the great white north. *sigh* and much longer too. Our blueberries don't even start until nearly the end of august.
I doubt that anyone is there in the middle of the night, but some of them probably start showing up well before dawn.
It's open all night and that's when the restaurants come and shop the wholesale stalls to stock up for their day.
Yeah! There's a bunch of famer's/food/artistan markets all over the city. I always find something interesting to eat, along w/ a alot of nice fruits/vegetables and stuff. I'm also a big fan of the Reading Terminal Market in Philly...so much quality food and produce. Definitely a "must" when in Philly :sunny:
