hi im mike, this is my first post. my hair is what is usually classified as a jew fro. there is really nothing to do with it because its so curly and it springs back to place when i move it. heres a picture: i pulled it up so you could see that it is actually about 5.5 inches in length... so i have always wanted straight hair so i could get emo hair (thats my thing) but i dont wanna chemically straighten my hair because it can screw up my hair forever. i recently saw some guys that had thin dreads, like half a centimeter thick but it was styled like emo hair. so i am wondering how i could do this. i was thinkin that since emo hair is cut differently then my current hairstyle, i could get my hair straigtened with a normal flat iron and the hair stylist could cut it for emo hair and then i could get dreads by the dread person! hopefully i could get an end result of something like this: this is jason hale from the band chiodos
hmmm... how far have you grown it out in the past? Wait till it starts laying down(with length) would be my suggestion. Back combing it in tiny dreadlocks at this stage will only make them stand up I think...I've never really had experiance with tiny thin dreadlocks like that. I know thicker ones will stick up though so I can only assume. I hope someone with curly hair can give you some good advice.
the problem is, in order to keep your hairstyle, you gotta trim it every so often. and with dreads, if you cut them, they unravel alot. i dunno what to tell ya, man
I'm sure what you're tring to do can be accomplished, but the question is, do youw ant dreads or do you want emo hair?? I'd say id you want emo hair, just flat iron it every mornign or something...the dreads wil take time to develop and be a lot more of an ordeal to maintain and style. If you want emo-dreads then I'd say what you're thinking would be your best plan of action, but keep in mind, dreading your hair is going to shrink it a looootttt... I'd give it a while to grow out if you're seriously going to take that route. hope I was helpful
i don't think straightening your hair and then dreading isn't going to work the way you're hoping. keep in mind that your roots will grow in curly and there's really no way to maintain straightening your hair when you have dreads. curly hair dreads really well, and you won't have "curly" dreads per se - they'll wind up looking straight but really be a bunch of curly, knotted hair. if that makes any sense. it's important to note that dreads aren't really a controllable hairstyle. they grow how they grow and they do what they want. they can be controlled through certain types of maintenance, but that can be an awful lot of work.
I think your hair is adorable... why would you want to make it into something it's not? I can tell you it will likely be a very frustrating process and will NOT come out the way you hope. Your hair looks a lot thicker and is very curly. I love jew fros I also love naturally dreaded jew fros (because they dread so beautifully... typically with curly tips at the ends). If you want to dread then let it dread the way they want to be (I'd imagine yours would end up medium to thick in width because of the texture). You can than be emo and lament over your non-emo but otherwise rockin hair.
ugh being them emo scene kids those kids are faggots im sorry if i hurt your feelings but i cant stand those kids...
um... "faggots?" I realize you're only 16 and all... but that's completely immature and inappropriate. Why don't you follow the advice of your signature and free YOUR mind.
um yea... please keep thoughts like that to yourself. It was completely inappropriate to the conversation. Now lets get back to constructive help...
Ok, so I am new to this forum, but what attracted me to this site was your picture in all honesty. I like curly haired guys so I clicked and humored myself. Then I saw your picture, I was like I dig this, BUT THEN I READ WHAT YOUR INTENTIONS were. Pls do not straighten it, because it is sooo sexy! Honestly, I see all these straight haired guys, even rockers, and I think eh it's not that great. But if you do go ahead, you will look like just another Adam Lambert!! Actually, Idc about what you do with hair, just use hair care products.
agreed... Anyway back to you haha, I don't think you really want dreads because you can never really go in to getting dreads with a look in mind, unless you're willing to put loads of effort in. You're better off just relaxing your hair and straightening it as that would actually be less effort than your perfect dreads surprisingly enough. I think you look adorable the way you are though, maybe you'll appreciate it one day
