Yeah, so what? Her world-wide reputation will fall so much that docs will get her on antidepressants and then she will kill herself?
    Somebody got hurt?
Why do you care so much if she is an idiot?
+ it is just your opinion, which doesn't mean shit, just like mine opinion, or just like this whole thread, or just like this whole accident.

None. So what? Why do you want statements? Maybe she just wanted to walk down the streets with her vagina on top, while having shaved cross in pubic hair? It doesn't mean shit! And it shouldn't!

It is just funny to watch how other even more retarded people get offended over such bullshit.

It's funny. And maybe bit retarded. But still funny :D

Yeah, we could have done something important instead of writing shit here... No one said she wanted to do anything.

When I went to a Catholic church years ago with a girl that was catholic,it was very confusing to me. People kept bobbing up and down ,up and down,up and down, to the sound of a little bell. I don't see how their knees could last with that action,if repeated for years. They were speaking Latin also,I guess so that the whole experience with the candles, incense and costumes would seem more mysterious and powerfull. Frankly,I don't think the whole deal was/is a psychically(or physically) sound exercise for the adherants to retain much of their individuality. When I see folks making those little motions on their chests and forehead,I realise there's no getting away from the influence of the church. Not that they should. It's just that I should not indulge. I'm too independant to adhere to intolerant institutions,I guess, and I'd call them intolerant. After all, womens bodies don't belong to themselves do they?--The church and advertisers have near complete control of them and they shouldn't be exposed like that, ITO. That woman was brave.

This reminds me of 'Piss Christ,' that grainy picture of a crucifix submerged in a jar of urine. It's just a cheap attempt to shock and offend, and I don't know why the Catholics are so willing to buy into it. Any statement that was being made by her is sort of lost to me underneath the layers of "hey, look at me, I'm so edgy."

And for the record, I'm an atheist, a bisexual and I'm married to another woman. The Catholic church would hate me, and I'm not to fond of it either for all the covering up of sexual abuse of little boys and allowing AIDS to spread in Africa because condoms are evil or some such bullshit.

I don't see it as brave at all. I see it as stupid and childish. The worst part is that I know a lot of people like her. I tend to agree with a lot of what they say about organized religion. But I don't want to speak up about it, because I don't want to be associated with some idiot going around without her pants on thinking that she's making a difference, or at the very least, pissing off mommy and daddy.

Seriously, pope girl or whatever people are calling her needs to grow the hell up and put some damn pants on.

If I may...I believe the phrase you were looking for is

"Put her big girl panties on".

Anything to cover her up. I'm far from being a prude, and I have no problem with nudity, provided that it's not in a public place where nudity isn't allowed.

I have no problem with nudity, period. It's the human body, it's natural, we all have one....

Neither do I, but when you're in a public place where clothes are required, you should probably have clothes on.

But the annoying thing for me isn't the nudity, it's the childish 'hey, look at me' shock value nature of her protest. It doesn't make her side look like rational, functioning adults. It makes them look like raving lunatics or attention seeking children. It doesn't get her point across (except the 'hey, look at me' part) to do this. It doesn't get anyone thinking about what she's trying to say.

It just alienates the people on the fence with the whole religion issue, gives the other side more ammunition, and it makes her side look like people who you can't have a rational conversation with.

If that was her goal, then mission accomplished. But - and I can't stress this enough - I'm pretty sure that most of her goal was to have people pay attention to her.

Whenever people say "oh it's just a naked body, I am fine with it", l just want to find the grossest, sweaty fat guy with sores and shit all over him to follow those people around.

Because all naked people are equal, donchaknow.

    I would agree.

If they went and charged every single other participant in what I'm reading as a tolerated naked parade.

    (emphasis mine)

What if it was a swastika? Who would give a fuck? That would be her pubes and her expression, there's all sorts of racist fucks who do things like that, and there's plenty of people who would out of resentment that the swastika is associated with violent fucks who blatantly stole it. Unless she also had a hitler stache, I would NOT actually expect someone in a nudist parade with swastika pubes to be a NAZI sympathizer.

As for ridiculing catholics, they're just pissy that they can no longer burn people at the stake for free speech -- how about they shut the fuck up and sit down, they're not special, and criticizing them has nothing to do with anything. Rather like islam: I want to live in your country, and change the laws that forced everyone to accept me to instead force everyone to be like me.

If the school punishes EVERYONE who took part, that's fine (though probably motovated by appeasing the church). If they don't, more power to them. If they punish her specifically, I hope that there's a way to sue them for singling out her freedom of expression, in a situation where others broke the same nudity rule without punishment.

No, it just doesn't make her look like that. I'm sure fox news could make it sound that way, but no.... anyone who thinks it's a big deal is the raving lunatic.

It's just a funny costume, get over it.

I, for one, was rather dissappointed by the lack of proper pictures.

I do think it was meant to be funny and she's been painted as all these bad things by people who weren't there and live to twist everything free people do.

    To update my position:

I was under the impression that it more of a naked event, however it seems to have been one where it's at least somewhat acceptable to be naked, and I only found one picture that confirmed anything about her nudity, so I would be entirely unsurprised if the other naked people didn't get any pictures published at all (who would publish them?)

But, that does not change the issue with the church throwing a bitch fit -- there are naked people all over the place all the time, and they don't find that to be a problem that I've ever heard of -- but they think they can urge punishment when someone naked criticises them? So, to be clear, are they criticising her being naked, or her criticising them? Because one should not spur any outrage on their part, and one is protected free speech.

If they want to make being naked a part of it, if anything I think it makes the nudity, in violation of ordinances or otherwise, clearly a matter of protected free speech: the full effect of her message could not be conveyed without the nudity.

In the video I saw, the guy didn't want to think that any part of it was free speech, but did not say why, other than that it was bigoted. Very harsh criticisms can be leveled at the church, without any hint of bigotry -- in deed, hers was more satirical and amusing than anything, she was a female (maybe THAT'S the part that he thought was unacceptable  ) pope, in party mode with religious genetalia (which could be seen to make all sorts of worthwhile statements) while she was handing out condoms (I don't know about you guys, but I immediatly thought of the pope telling poor people that condomn spread AIDS -- to me, this makes her look almost like a catholic apologist, in a way, though I don't think she would identify with that). It seems to be an all-around friendly open way of addressing the social problems around the church -- which is why the church is so quick to jump on it and call it bigotry and demand that it be stifled.

I don't think they want to go into free speech, I think it would protect her from citation for nudity.

The catholic guy said he wanted her taught a "lesson". Yeah, and what's that, you better be fucking scared to criticise the catholic church, even by way of good-natured satire?

Thinking about it, I have decided that no matter what they do, I'm quite impressed anyway. At my school, one would be arrested (if the local police didn't find you first, the university administraitors would order the university PD to do so), and probably charged with exposure, disorderly conduct, public intoxication (the police here can't understand anyone doing anything out of their ordinary without being intoxicated), and probably a slew of "for good measure" charges. The school would expel you, and they would drop the worst and least charges, and give you all the probation possible for the middle ones. So if there was no tazer-play, and she STILL has not even been cited on nudity, that's impressive in my book.

I'm not going to just get over it. People like this pope girl idiot make rational, intelligent and non-sensationalist atheists like me look like irrational, idiotic and sensationalist loons. Maybe some people are fine with that depiction of us, but I'm not. It's people like her that make sure that mainstream, religious America sees atheists as a lunatic fringe element.

The only lunacy is seeing her as a "lunatic".

WHAT is so very bad there? You don't even know that she's atheist, it could be that she's christian (of whatever denomination) and a reformer, protesting against the repressive hijacking of her religion by the world's oldest and best funded mafia, the catholic church.

It's just not lunacy, she put on a pointy cardboard hat with no pants, and passed out condoms.... sofuckwhat?

What kind of wimpy atheist apologist are you? Because you sound like the type who is to atheism as obama is to progressiveism: Yeah, you give it lip service, but when it comes to actually walking the walk, you can't do that..... because the guys who don't like you, wouldn't like you :willy_nilly:
