I really had no idea...Until tonight at the ball park when my husband unfolds his chair and says there's one in the chair. We chased it down and he stomped on it. I googled photos...I didn't look closely at the spider but it definitely resembled the pics I'm seeing.
I didn't care until I was stationed in Georgia and my chances of coming into contact with them was increased 100X by working in the field. The bites were actually pretty common and after cleaning about 100 festering, putrid, and just downright disgusting brown recluse bites you start to do your research. I believe most people in jobs or situations where you have a chance of running into them get warned by others and have enough common sense to look into it. If not at least the name "Brown Recluse" gives you a hint of what to look for. Many I knew got bit in their sleep though... sweet dreams.
I just moved a ton of stuff in my carport where the chairs were sitting. I saw a bagillion spiders when I was moving stuff around. I guess I'll be more concerned when I go back to move more of that stuff out.
people here mistake a wolf for recluse all the time. the body of a recluse it smooth. but most of all .. It dont live here. But we are getting a new invasion from the south . WILD BOAR.. hunting unregulated. not that I want to see them in my county. but it would kill the boredom..
