Not at all, although I can see why you would say that. Most people need guidance and have others tell them what to do. To me a regular 9-5 job is much more boring.
I guess the risk is that you return to something that will provide financial means. But when life because mundane, we need to shake it up to get some perspective. It's healthy.
Some people like to have a profession, not everyone is satisfied with the same things. Your lifestyle is far from perfect to someone.
Hello, OK, now that HF is ruled out it becomes complicated . Na, just kidding. The best answer is: I have no idea. Etherea is doing interesting things, I could grab my pack and just go and go. After I get my head clear I could think about what to do after a sabbatical. What would you do? Regards Gyro
I would travel to several countries that I want to visit. I would read the books that I want to read, but don't have enough time. I'd learn a language, probably Russian. I'd decorate my room, date people, work out, work on my tan :-D Depends on the time and the budget. Oh I would also cook.
Of course not but you have to make money somehow. Obviously there are people that don't work 9-5, but most people have to do some kind of work in order to earn an income.
I got a shit load of money and quit my job a few years ago... I caught up on sleep and made a comic on hipforums while in a drug induced haze... I think I travelled too? Anyway it was great.
Hello, that are classical and good objectives for a sabbatical . The books are on my list, too. That is probably what I would start with. I think I enjoy the process of travelling more then arriving and being at a new location. A sabbatical as I see it is a way to develop new ideas. Maybe travelling helps to let the mind roam and get this new ideas. I've heard the endless birch forests near theTrans-Siberian Railway are very lovely . Hmmm, no, nothing for me . Regards Gyro
I am going to pull a Pressed_Rat on you and tell you that only sheeple let themselves be used. Work is not made for employees, it's made for employers. In my perfect world one could just do some work if one needs money and not work when one doesn't. In a non-perfect world one makes one's own life instead of depending on others to make one's life, whether it is the government or an employer.
well I need money every month for rent, utilities, food, transportation. so I must work every month. You don't have to work for an employer - artists, musicians, writers, as well as business owners and entrepreneurs spring to mind - but you still have to do something to earn money. Everything on this planet cost money. You can do as much as possible to live outside of the monetary system but even if you grow your own food you have to own the land it grows on. You cannot live without earning money or getting money from someone else.
It's not exactly what I meant, but not feeling like getting into this kind of discussion again. Cue: deviate coming in with his assumptions.
I was going to ask you how you make your life, but I decided not to because I have seen people accuse you of milking the government...I don't think that is the case but I thought my question might come off as combative because of what others have assumed.
That's fine, I don't mind so much what others think. It's just that I find it incredibly ignorant of people to assume things based on absolutely nothing.
I took a personal sabbatical in my mid twenties and spent a year in an ashram. I needed to find some self time and some answers for me. A couple of years ago I took a year off as well when I was "healing" from treatments. It was a good thing for me to do.
I think people assume because you never really say, when I saw the conversation the question of how do you support yourself popped into my head, but I didn't ask because I didn't want to turn it into a "you're a lazy bum that does not know the meaning of work" sort of thing because it was nothing more than curiosity and I felt like it was going to be misconstrued. I'd love not to have a job and get to hang out with Sophia all day, go to sleep late and wake up late, but yeah, got bills to pay. I'd settle for a more interesting job.
