I find meditating while high on marijuana one of the greatest experiences in life, but I have seen many articles on the web speaking against it. I'd like to know if there is anything bad about it? I find being high makes the sensations stronger, and relaxing much much easier. I also experience very amazing visualizations well doing this. Does anyone have anything to say about this? Whether through practice and experience or maybe science?
Just has to do with why you meditate. If it's a form of self liberation then you are only going half way by concurrent pot smoking. I have smoked lots of pot so don't get me wrong. It does make the visual center more open, and slows thoughts, which can make meditation more textured. However, having also been a kundalini adept (self titled), I can say that there's a space of freedom within which cannot be fully centered upon unless the body and mind start clear. But all that said, to meditate stoned is better than to never meditate
It’s impossible to describe or define meditation since it’s a happening beyond the finite mind and limited language, having said that initial effort prior to the spontaneous is a so called stillness/quietness of the mind/body that which stimulates the mind/body may impede the happening.
By activating the cannabinoid receptor, you're also activating your stored melatonin (4000% increase on average). Melatonin is a psychedelic (believe it or not). It also breaks down to other psychedelics. All sorts of useful receptors and chemicals are used. Meditation itself creates viable DMT while releasing and activating chemicals like serotonin and adrenergic receptors. While this may all help you meditate, it'll make it more difficult without them. This is only if you do it on a constant basis for an extended period of time. Meditating with drugs can also help, so long as it's not done to often. Meditation itself re-sensitizes your receptors, as does melatonin (antioxidant). The key is finding a balance of drugs and meditation. Use the drug to make going deep easier without fear, but not for daily meditation. Reduce your chemical tolerance while increasing your tolerance for stress and anxiety.
I've also heard many things against it, so I've yet to try it. How long have you been meditating with marijuana? Would love to hear more about your experience with it?
I'd say about a year. Before I talk about I'll tell you a bit about my relationship with marijuana: I started by smoking once a month for a couple of months, soon after I got into meditation. Then I'd smoke on special occasions, seeing friends I rarely see. Then I'd smoke if it were available, like once a week. I spent a good year never even buying weed. I always got smoked up or chipped in a few bucks, because all I needed was one toke. When I started to buy my own weed and pipes, I noticed I smoked a lot more! Sometimes every night for a couple days. I've seen huge differences in tolerance by smoking it in the same day, or 2 days in a row. Even just one week of smoking everyday was boring to me though, cause each day would require more weed for less effect. So now I try and smoke every third day or longer. Meditation you must understand, I do both sober and high, so it's not like it is a practice I only do high. I meditate about once or twice a week on average, sometimes I do it everyday I guess it depends what happened the day before. The sensations between a sober meditation and a high meditation are very identical, but when high, I feel more relaxed and slip into a higher state of meditation far more quickly, this has allowed me to see vibrant visuals within minutes of meditation that can be quite distracting, and if you're using an indica strain, I find it is tough to stay awake. I suggest satavia if you try it yourself. I find meditation much more simple, and calming while high, but I guess there's that component of a natrual high you miss out on. I highly recommend it, but again, I'm wary since I see lots of propaganda agaisnt it.
Very cool dude. Like I said, never done it high, but I've seen some really awesome visuals while meditating before. So I'm hoping that it will be better once I try. Of course I'm not gonna try to force it, as that would be counter-productive to what meditation is for.
Everybody is already high...weed does the opposite, it brings you to the non high state-from there u see things the way they really are. what you call high is clarity, from there you see emptiness...thats what we are all subconsciously seeking,,,,to be lost untethered in the void that is ourself. meditation is ongoing, no need to seek it....weed offered to siva brings u to know this.... you are that, at all times......nothing matters, and then everything fades.....again.
I think marijuana is absolutely great for altered mind states and introspective exploration, but I'm a typical Gemini Sun and I've never been one to be able to sit still, sober or otherwise. I do think marijuana definitely facilitates for consciousness expansion and awareness.
Pot is a mild pain killer so you can sit more comfortably longer it also works on the frontal lobes - home of alpha waves makes you feel more chill the point with meditation is it's supposed to be the end all for when nothing else works and if you only meditate when stoned the quality of your experience depends on your dealer - meditation means alot to alot of people - but later in life it is a way out of tangled thought and feelings - it is liberation - so if you had years of sober meditation behind you I would say - yeah, awesome, but if you don't then ground rules needs be to start somewhere. Smoke after.
I have certainly experienced a more difficult standing with meditation after a couple more experiences while being high. It starts to feel more natural to slip into meditation high, but it feels more like a task whence sober now. I agree that those boundaries are probably needed, I feel as if I didn't have the fundamentals of meditation down before trying it high, I would never have found a real state of empty consciousness. It's interesting though, weed makes me get really into that, I've never been much of a drinker, but I find alcohol puts your thoughts more to your physical self, even self centered selfish thoughts as opposed to an aspiring state of love and peace. It's nice to have those feelings without drugs though, it feels more natural
I started a thread on a similar topic http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=468896&f=67
Consider using; Yoga to deprogram your mind, Tantra to allow karmic action in this world without becoming re-entangled and examine Advaita Vedanta for self-inquiry and self-conformation of true inner nature, recreational drug use will be of no assistance in this endeavor perhaps even impeding your journey, liberate yourself from suffering desires/fears and habits will fall away. Above all believe nothing I or anyone else’s parrots or points to, don’t even believe your own mind till you’ve traced notions to their source, try staying with the I-AM-NESS, that which sparks your consciousness and the entire world into play, obviously there are seekers here, the investigation has begun, follow through.
I know a lot of "masters" and "gurus" say this as well, but I must disagree. The unique states of mind recreational drug use puts you in opens your mind, gives you perspective, and acts as a window to other worlds. Recreational drug use can also raise Kundalini energy. Now I know, alcohol is generally bad, but not pot. If anything, it's enormously helpful for any endevour. Cannabis is a healing plant here to help us.
I am no master, guru or eloquent explainer of the inexplicable, rather I’m a temporary human condition like you, it’s not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing, I’m certainly not trying to influence you in any way for truth has no agenda, without aversion nor attraction simply examine whether or not you’ve become entangled in a habitual mind/body addiction or acting spontaneously according to your true inner nature, remembering all transitory states of mind are false and only you have the ability to confirm any notion in consciousness, my drug of choice is alcohol (merlot wine) except for the temporary warming feeling it has deleterious effects on my mind/body/energy yet I consume it weekly, some are highly allergic to spliff, Namaste.
I started meditation and yoga sober, and I usually do both while sober; but sometimes I've smoked just before and in both cases I experienced positive effects that enhanced my meditation/asana/yoga. I could perform the asanas easier and more comfortably. While stoned I can still my mind and focus better. It's not habit forming, and it treats my anxiety.
