I called them and said I don't want to take that med I looked up the side effects and allot of people who have smoked pot on that med did not go good. It’s not something I'm comfortable taking and it's not just because I want to keep smoking pot.

I don't know much about topamax, except that it increases your risk of kidney stones.

This thread is a bit older now but I'll join in saying that Topamax is pretty hard to tolerate on a regular basis. The numbness in your hands and feet is pretty annoying along with appetite loss and personality loss. They don't nick name it "Dopamax" for nothing. Elavil is a tricyclic antidepressant that will make you extremely drowsy and leave you in a strange fog all day.

I get migraines and have found that Metoprolol works well as a preventive. It's a blood pressure medication. Another common beta blocker for migraine prevention is Inderal. I've taken this one but it didn't help. I must note that I only take the Metoprolol when I'm feeling a block of migraines coming on since mine are in clusters. 25 mg once a day, but it's prescribed 2x a day.

For the attacks, Imitrex works really well. I've taken Relpax before and found it to be much gentler than 'Trex but not as effective in getting rid of the attack. If you get this one, start at 50 mg or less.

Depakote can help prevent them but you have to get those liver tests done so I wouldn't go that route unless everything else isn't working. Also, don't underestimate aspirin and caffeine. And make sure you're getting enough magnesium. Hopefully, you found something that helps by now. Best of luck!

I take flexeril 5 mgs every night before bed and the migraines have not been happening as much and the Relpax I take that and I'm good for a week without the migraines so I only take that once a week or every 2 weeks.
